Hamlet's Insanity

Sanity can be a difficult character's trait to figure out but even harder to determine his sanity. Throughout the story Hamlet presented himself as insane yet he was sane the whole time considering the fact of what happened after Hamlet's first encounter with the ghost, plotting the mousetrap play on Claudius, and knowing what Claudius' cunning plan was. The first point to agreeing on Hamlet's sanity was what happened after he encountered the ghost. In Act 1, scene 5 Horatio and Marcellus are with Hamlet while he is talking to the ghost which is confirmed to be Hamlet's dad considering he was "wearing his exact armor" and he "frowned just like the king did". The ghost tells Hamlet how his father died by saying in Act 1, Scene 5, and Line 39 "The serpent that did sting thy father's life, Now wears the crown" but what happens after that is how he proves that he is actually sane and he is just pretending he is insane. After Hamlet, Horatio and Marcellus se

How the First Plant Came to Be by David Biello

The article selected for this analytical essay was "How the First Plant Came to Be," by David Biello conversing about Dana Price and the discovery she made. The main argument that is presented in this article is that the glaucophyte Cyanophora paradoxa has a genome of about 70 million base pairs, however; only modern plants have the gene to make the merger of photosynthesizer and a larger host cell possible meaning that capture had to have happened only one time. In my opinion, since they both can self-replicate and have their own DNA it show how they were once not dependent. Chloroplast and mitochondria "highflyer" of the parent cells and could subsist on their own. ATP is used in photosynthesis making it having a connection. Having an organelle that is so intriguing coming from a mutation just sounds insane. However, there could have been lots of organelles that were never passed down, which would have no record of existence. As stated in the article "According to the analysis of C. paradoxa's genome of roughly 70 million base pairs, this capture

Models are Merely Products

Imagine taking a stroll along the aisle of a perfume section at a supermarket outlet, and suddenly coming across a rather peculiar advertisement. There, perched ever so niftily on the shelf, is this cologne; however, the human model on the advert is an average looking person with a noticeable bulging physique, in a typical casual attire, without flaunting any kind of makeup, and just gazing out to the oncoming customer with the usual "buy-this-product" look. What happens next is quite self-explanatory. Anyone who has ever been exposed to the popular media will do a double take, and may not be faltered into buying that particular cologne for all the right reasons; in this case, because of the oddity of the portrayal of the model in the advertisement itself. The obvious issue here is not the product, rather the average Joe model. In this case, the standard notion of what and who a model should be is subjected to disjunction with the weight of the corresponding product, and henc

Literary Devices in The Kite Runner

In his novel "The Kite Runner," Khaled Hosseini uses literary devices such as diction, imagery, and tone to reveal Amir's past and show how it characterizes his future. Throughout the story Amir is affected greatly by his past and as he matures he is exposed to dramatic news that gives new meaning to many relationships in his life. Hassan, Amir's childhood friend, plays a major role in the man Amir becomes as the story is told. Khaled Hosseini begins by using diction when he declares the unknown relationship between Amir and Hassan. Although they grew up in the same household and were childhood best friends, Amir was considered to be of greater worth. Hassan and Amir played together throughout the years, and enjoyed doing many of the same activities. As the bond grew between them, they also faced times of tragedy together. Hassan took up for Amir in several instances as a good

Technology and Communication

Communication plays a vital role in the day to day job functions as a police officer; therefore officers must possess good communication skills in order to communicate effectively. Officers also use many technological devices in order to communicate information in a timely manner. Combined, communication and technology allow officers to communicate effectively and efficiently with other officers the department and the dispatch center. Technological devices used by police officers are important to a police officer's duties. Some of the devices used by officers are mobile data terminals, cell phones and radios. These device help the officer to communicate throughout the department and with other agencies in a timely manner. Mobile data terminals (MDT's) are laptop computers that are mounted in the police cars allowing officers to instantly access information needed to perform their jobs safely. "With MDT's, police officers can run roadside queries of subjects through systems lik

School Breakfast and Lunch Programs

The topic of concern that I am going to address is how school breakfast and lunch programs impact the family in various ways. School meal programs, especially breakfast programs, have gotten a significant amount of attention in recent years due to the many studies that have shown the benefits of having these programs. These studies have shown that students who participate in school breakfast programs have better nutrition, less hunger, more food security, better performance in school, and the program could even improve the likelihood that students will eat breakfast on a regular basis (Bartfeld & Ryu, 2011). School breakfast and lunch programs are moving toward having a 100% participation rate, because when students who participated in the programs were analyzed and compared with the non-participation students, results showed significant differences in the categories listed above. (Moffitt, 1995). Being a Dietetics student, I am extremely aware of the importance of nutritious school me

My Family and Politics

As bad as it sounds, seeing as this is a paper for AP Government, politics have not and do not concern me. Ever since I became of age where I could identify what the president's job was, I never really saw the difference between all the political parties. Since I've never really payed attention, I've really just felt like there are a few issues that we all want to solve within the U.S., and all the disputes, silly arguments over sly remarks, dress codes and such, are very irrelevant. I do believe that politics are important to those of higher authority in the government, and it is imperative that they are prevalent, so I much rather pay attention to more of the more significant problems that occur or that have occurred in the world. Of course I have my views on the way things need to be ran and governed but so does everyone else in the world, whether they are politically intelligent or not, and honestly, I feel like my views and opinions are irrelevant to what is really going on becaus

Brothers Forever - Sonny's Blues

In "Sonny's Blues," by James Baldwin, Sonny and his brother, the narrator, are separated by their lifestyles. The oldest went to college while the youngest became a drug addict. It takes two simultaneous tragedies to reunite the brothers, which leads to their reconciliation. Although they had not talked in a while, they still seek each other in their time of need. Sonny and his brother take different paths in life: Sonny falls into a drug addiction while the narrator becomes an algebra teacher. Sonny moved in with his brother's family after their mother's death. While living there, Sonny is hurt when he finds out that "his presence, that musichad been torture for them and that they had endured it, not at all for his sake, but only for [the narrator's]." After the one thing he loved,

Overview of Fascism

Throughout history, all communities have many differences ideologies. One of those ideologies is fascism and nazism which associate with fascism, in fact, nazism emerges from fascism. Fascism is emerged from Italy by Mussolini, but nazism is raised from Germany by Hitler. A differences between fascism and nazism economy. Economy of fascism depends on trades or public, but economy of nazism depends on government. Hitler says that, "We are socialists, we are enemies of today's capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are all determined to destroy this system under all conditions." In this sentence we see that nazism is interested economy on government. Another differences between fascism and nazism is that while fascist ideology adopts conservatives ideology and nationalism, nazism adopts secularism and use science for government. Another sides, both ideologies share same reflections. For example, both of them reject liberalism because they believe that liberalism destroy t

A Life-Changing Experience

A Life-Changing Experience To me a role model is someone in my life that has influenced me in a positive way. They help shape the way I am in the present and what I will be in the future. They are someone that I can look to for advice in a hard situation and know that they will give me words of wisdom. A role model should be sincere and not out for their own good but the good of others. I think that they should be older then I am because they need to have more experience than I do and need to have a deeper insight. There are so many people in my life that have influenced me but there is only one that I can say is truly my role model and that is my mom Vivian. My mom was the first born of four siblings, the first one to come to the United States of America and the first one to have a child (me). She was the first for many things and that said "something". She had come to the U.S at the age of 16, my grandfather had asked for her. He had said to her over a phone call the night bef

Sony Brand Repositioning

Sony is in many industries but the electronic industry will be our key area to focus and improve on. Sony's electronics market is expected to grow at a rate of 7.2% annually to reach a value of $136,700 million in 2014. Sony is uniquely positioned to take advantage of this increase. As one of the largest global companies, Sony has the ability to tap into changes in consumer demands as they emerge. Apple, Panasonic and Microsoft are the major competitors of Sony and are currently ahead in the market. Future opportunities like newer technology and partnering with other companies will greatly contribute to their future. One of my main ideas for placement of products is if Sony had individual sales reps as well as lot more of their products would be sold. Just look at all these companies that have individuals that go out and sell their product they add sells on top of what they already do in store. Thinking about it closely people are everywhere and hear other people talking so say I was

My Basketball Coach

Every time I step on the basketball court, I understand that there is the excuse between success and myself. I like to share something interesting about basketball. Especially, I would like to tell to others about my basketball story. Maybe, I should call it for "showoff"; however, I always jump one thing all the time while I share. I would like to share a story that has been buried in my deep heart for a few years. The story took place when I studied in high school, but to me, it was as though it had happened last night. We were preparing for the "winter-cup" basketball game at that time. In my hometown, it is a coasted city where is located in the south of China, Guangzhou. The temperature of winter often falls down to 55 degrees, and it is humid. Every day, the coach had my teammates jogging around the playground, taking some 500 shots, training tactical and physical training. After finish daily training, all I want is to take a shower and lay down. After 2-week training, I tend to

Causes and Symptoms of Conduct Disorder

Introduction Conduct Disorder is a psychological disorder that presents in children and adolescence, typically characterized by violent or damaging behaviour and disregard for property and rules (Kostic et al, 2014). Attention must be given to the development of CD in adolescence to determine what factors (neurological or environmental) influence it's onset. Similarly, the relationship between CD and other disorders affecting youths, including learning disabilities and ADHD, must be examined to determine what secondary or cumulative effects suffers experience. And finally various methods of treatment need to be explored in order to identify the most effective course of action to help correct CD, looking at the impact of each on specific symptoms. Because of the inherently anti-social nature of Conduct Disorder (CD), this paper will show the causes, complications, and possible treatments of the disorder as reason why we need to help both symptomatic youth and society. Television Advertising

Television can be used to demonstrate the product in action, or to use colour and sound to build an atmosphere around the product, thus enhancing its image (Fahy & Jobber, 2006). The emphasis for this thesis will be television advertisements, because of the many elements of television, sound, colour, sight and motion that aid the presentation of the message. Also the fact that Brassington and Pettitt (2000) argue that television is better for creating an advertisement message with emotional appeals, contributes to our concentration to television advertisements. The degree of television advertisement standardization/adaptation at theinternational level refers mainly to the manipulation by the manager of the promotional mix elements (Bradley & Sousa, 2005). Supporters of standardization say a trend is sweeping both marketing and advertising – the movement to create products that are manufactured, packaged and promoted the same way around the world, regardless of individual cultures (Mueller, 1989). According to Bradley & Sousa (2005) higher degree of adaptation is encouraged when the manager perceives great diff

Character Analysis - Bottom and Puck

In Shakespearean terms, a fool is usually a commoner or a clever peasant that uses their skill and wit to out-do those of a higher social status, in that sense, they are historically accurate to the real fools of their time period, but Shakespeare usually portrays his fools as caricatures of their real-life counterparts for dramatic effect, for example; by giving the fool the ability to use magic, Shakespeare created extensive opportunities for distinct and memorable situations to unfold and entertain his audience. Puck and Bottom are both very dramatically effective fools in A Midsummer Night's Dream, and we could give a strong argument for either character being the most effective. However, I feel that Puck is more dramatically effective than Bottom. Puck is a licensed fool, as it is his job to make Oberon laugh and he is given permission to mock his world. Licensed fools are usually sad characters themselves, often outsiders. We can see this as Puck is an excluded and disliked char

Ethos, Pathos and Logos in Advertising

Throughout the history of television, viewers have been targeted with ads that aim to influence and sway them to buy products. One constant source of advertising over the course of television history has been the beer industry. Two of the largest beer producers currently airing ads are Budweiser and Guinness. In order to sell new lines of their products, both companies have released ads to try and appeal to a new audience. The Budweiser advertisement uses several visual and rhetorical techniques in order to depict their brand as a constant and reliable source of a good time. Meanwhile, Guinness uses visual and rhetorical devices to depict its brand as a serious beer for those who fit the mold that their ad depicts. Budweiser's use of ethos and pathos in tandem with the use of strong visuals makes their brand very appealing and easily recognizable amongst their competition. In the end, Budweiser creates a stronger advertisement than Guinness by establishing a good reputation, creating s

Importance of Mythologies

As you can see, mythology, originally, serves many valuable purposes. And actually we are surrounded by mythology in today's society everywhere, whether you realize it or not: in films, in the names of the cities, in literature, in art, in cultural traditions. Heroes and gods will always remain the bright images of heroism, generosity and morality. In every aspect of our lives: even for our actions we can seek wisdom in beautiful legends about mighty people. How great heroes behaved themselves in various situations, when they had to make important decisions which could affect the fates of theirs and others' lives. These things teach us how to behave ourselves in everyday life. For instance, how heartfelt is the parting of Hector and Andromache before Hector because of his duty goes to his certain death? Aeneas' nagging sense of guilt before Dido, though he does the will of the gods and cannot do otherwise, the loyalty of Penelope to her husband- such things are much healthier cultural phenomenon than today's glossy magazines and TV series. The morality of any culture is shaped by its myths, legends and folktales. Mythology grants the continuity of the culture. And by

Liberating The Navajo Nation

For the Navajo Nation to rid themselves of 21st century colonialism, they must first put an end to corporate hegemony and in particular Peabody Mining Corporation hegemony within their sovereign borders through nonviolent means. Violence will only reinforce the preeminence of corporations on reservations, and will bring reprisals from the U.S government, as history is an indicator that nonviolent resistance is the only method for sustainable change. Finding a means of liberation will require the Navajo Nation to implement acts of nonviolent resistance that have been successfully deployed against historical imperialistic forces. The British Empire was brought to its knees through nonviolent movements for independence, beginning with the Egyptian Revolution of 1919 which acted as a prelude to losing the last of their most valuable overseas colony; India. In regards for human rights, the British Empire was forced to abolish slavery six years earlier than planned, due to the civil diso

An Overview of Homeland Security

Abstract Has the United States become a safer country now then it was 10 years ago? A lot of experts have questioned this many times. After the traumatic event of the attacks on The World Trade Center, the United States has taken major steps in protecting this country so an event like this will not happen again in the future. Although there has always been some type of security all around, these measures have been taken to the next step. With the safety measures that have been provided to the people before, there are a lot more new technologies and improvements that have occurred to make this a safer place. An Overview of Homeland Security Function After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, people in the United States knew that absolutely anything could happen without even thinking about it. This event made the government realize that the United States security was not the best it could be. There always has been security everywhere, but today everything is taken to another l

Women and the Civil War

When the constitution stated "All men are created equal", it was never meant to give rights to any women throughout the course of the new nation. On April 12, 2015, Hillary Clinton declared her candidacy for the Presidential election of 2016. This stark transformation through the course of American history is due significantly to the Civil War and the effects it had on American culture. The unique opportunities afforded to women throughout that time period changed the perception of women throughout America. Throughout the nineteenth century, women's rights became apparent because of the civil war as seen through women's effects of economic, social, cultural, and political landscape of the nation. Primarily, the economic effects on American society from women joining the workforce were greatest during the civil war. Because of the large number of men needed on either side of the warfront, many women took the call to action. In extreme cases, many women even joined the battle

Morality and Acts of Justice

"What's the right thing to do?" is a tricky question with many distinctive answers. In this book, the author talks about the obligations that people have in order to do the right thing in problematic situations in a society. The definition of justice is indescribable since there can be multiple definitions for every person, or even it can be indefinable. This book focuses on what justice is to people. The author is helping the readers to gain more knowledge of what is considered just in society and what truly is just. His main lesson is to tell the readers that people with different set of mind define the definition of justice. Some people might think a certain thing is the right thing to do, but others might disagree. So what is justice? Aristotle said that justice is giving people what they deserve. The act of justice can be very complicated in every situation. Some people consider abortion is acceptable whereas others think it is a murder. In the first chapter, he talks

Nike - The Jogger Commercial

Nike –The Jogger Commercial People have become familiar with the typical formula used by sports companies to advertise their sporting goods on TV commercials. These advertisements usually consist of world-class athletes with impossible bodies using a specific sports product and illustrating its advantages over rival products. Although many of these companies are generally looked upon positively and have a large fan base including a number of people who swear by these products – they still fail to appeal to a large portion of the masses. Not everyone feels compelled to pay $200 for the world's most cutting edge running shoes that provide great orthopedic support and at the same time give feedback about how to improve your running technique. This however was not the case for Nike during the 2012 summer Olympics when they released their "Find your Greatness" Campaign across TV and Social media. Rather using all-star athletes the campaign consisted of a series of comm

The Corporate Assault on Hip Hop

This paper will explore the corporate greed that has plagued hip-hop ever since it became a billion dollar a year industry. Major record labels like Sony and Universal, which are owned by white men, have been intentionally signing rappers that reflect modern minstrel characteristics of blacks to attract White listeners. "Once hip hop became popular, critics attributed it to the destruction of the Black community, gang and drug related violence, demeaning of women, and the overall destruction of America's values." (Rose 2008). Near the end of the 1990's, rap became associated more and more with its negative manifestations, specifically "gangsta rap," but also very misogynistic, materialistic, violent, and over-sexualized lyrics and images. Hip-hop's multi-dimensional range of subjects, including politics, religion, comedy, social commentary, urban story telling, and social critique became underrepresented in mass media. "Notable rappers who address these topics

The Beef Sector in Venezuela

The crisis that Venezuela has faced during the passed years is now affecting different sectors in the market consumption, such as the beef sector, which is starting to be a big dilemma. The government set a very low price for beef this is because they are trying to minimize the money spent by the people. This price control on beef is affecting people in the beef business in an enormous way, leading them to take decisions that will not be the best for the rest of the population. The prices set by the government are so low that butchers have decided not to sell more beef, causing a shortage on it, as shown on fig. 1. The shortage is not only caused by the low prices, it is also because selling beef at the normal price will put them in the risk of being taken to jail. Fig.2, illustrates the graph of price elastic

Who Are The Poor?

Poverty is a major problem in the United States today. Social, economical, political and cultural factors all contribute to poverty. It has been an common social issue that has troubled the United States for years and been a constant problem. No matter what the normal income, unemployment or overall prosperity is, there will always be people that are homeless struggling to find shelter for their loved ones and hungry without food to adequately feed their children. Although the United States is one of the richest countries in the world, it can't seem to beat this epidemic. According to our text there are three levels to poverty or to being poor. These levels are: the transitional poor, the marginal poor and the residual poor. (Popple & Leighninger, 2011, p. 246-247). The transitional poor is someone who will only experience being poor for a short amount of time. An event in their life might have caused this brief setback and they will ultimately rebound from it over time. The margina
