The Armenian GenocideThroughout history genocide has taken place on more than one occasion, causing mass destruction and casualties. The most commonly known genocide is the Nazi Holocaust, but the one less commonly known with an equivalent amount of brutality is the Armenian Genocide, also known as the Armenian Holocaust. The Armenian Genocide seems to have been ignored and this can be due to the fact that today, Turkey still rejects that the massacre was "genocide". Genocide is the murder of an entire people (Levack 800). The United Nations estimates that about 1 million Armenians were killed as a result (Bass). Since the early 1900's Turkey has been trying to hide the massacres, but this organized genocide should not be ignored because it became a model for future ge |

The numbers have quadrupled since the late 1990s sparking an ever prevalent issue on the subject of homeschooling. Homeschooling refers to the idea of educating children at home instead of sending them to public or private schools. The main reasons why parents choose to homeschool their children are to provide religious and moral instruction. While it may seem like a good idea to some to project their ways of thinking on to their children though homeschooling it is detrimental for any youth to be taught one way of thinking. In addition many of these homeschool students suffer from lack of social skills and lack of acceptance of the diverse ways in life that as a democracy we all live with. The Rebellion of 1837-38The rebellions of 1837-1838 that took place in Lower and Upper Canada were enacted over lack of political reforms. This essay will explore the causes, actions and consequences of the rebellions by examining the tensions between settlers and the British crown. In doing so, this essay will argue the thesis that a fundamental lack of liberty and ability to control and vote on representation and legislation, acted as the defining features that lead to the rebellions of 1837-38 in both Upper and Lower Canada. The subject of the rebellion and the subsequent political reforms in Canada are subject to great debate. Some historians attribute the 1837 rebellions within the wider context of the French and American Revolutions, asserting that these events are intimately related as the struggle for independence gained momentum on this side of the Atlantic. The political roots of the unrest that best Upper Canada in the 1830s can be traced back to 1791 when Western Loyalists sought a government sep |

Moral Shackles in Huckleberry FinnThe definition of freedom is both relative and rapidly changing; what one thinks makes an individual free could be drastically different from what someone else thinks. Additionally, one's idea of what freedom is and how it can be attained do not necessarily stay consistent over time. Both Jonathan Bennett and Nomy Arpaly offer their ideas of what it takes for an individual to achieve freedom. For Bennett, a strong intellect is the key to one's freedom. Arpaly on the other hand believes that one's emotions drive individual freedom. But these two perspectives do not quite run concurrently with Mark Twain's belief that one needs both a strong intellect and emotional consistency to achieve freedom. The question is if Huck Finn, the protagonist of the novel, is able to achieve this individual freedom. He may be the physically freest in the novel, but being so free in one capacity could create some major shortcomings in others. At the beginning of the novel, Twain introduces a young, cla |

Problems of Illegal ImmigrantsIn the United States, we have come to an impasse or maybe a downward spiral even towards how we view immigration. Although this great country was founded on that idea, nowadays, the US Government is not as accepting to those who come across our borders illegally and plan to stay. What our generation does not empathize with is how difficult the lives of those who come here illegally, truly have it. What are some of those obstacles they may have to deal with that we, as legal-born citizens, do not? How might these difficulties even be the root cause for the problem of immigration? Aside from having to successfully make it into the country, and then find a place to live, as well as getting a job, there are many limitations as to what these "aliens" who have made it here still have to deal with. The History of Mary PrinceThe torment that came with the chains of bondage, that people once called skin was indescribably atrocious. The injustice and inhumane suffrage that spanned for centuries were inflicted on African slaves went during the Atlantic Slave Trade. For historians to understand the slaves, it is crucial to know how slavery began in the Caribbean. The reason why Spanish colonists came to the Caribbean in the first place was because they were searching for gold. They forced the natives of the islands into slavery. The islands then became a trade/ gathering point for ships bringing goods from Spain. They discovered tobacco, sugar, salt and other various spices. The most profitable being is sugar and salt, which were grown on large plantations and cultivated by slaves. Very soon the natives of the West Indies practically all died due to the combination of European diseases, mental and physical injuries. Religion and Politics in Ulster, IrelandIn regards to religion, Catholics made up the majority in Ireland whilst in Ulster, the religion of the majority, unlike most towns outside Ulster, was Presbyterian. However, the Presbyterian population had been split into liberals led by the Reverend Henry Montgomery and the fundamentalists led by the Reverend Henry Cooke. The liberal strand was much more lenient towards the Catholics than the fundamentalists. Despite this, the population had been increasing at an alarming rate; in 1800 Belfast's population was around 20,000, by 1851 it was 100,000, then 127,000 by 1861. This resulted in an increase in competition for jobs due to more and more Catholics and Protestants entering Ulster, this alone caused sectarian clashes among Catholics and Protestants and was notably seen on Shakill and Fools road. Both parties even sought to create religious campaigns with the intention of influencing the new migrant workers. This downside to this was that it made sectarian clashes more frequent and violent. The Catholics in Ulster tied itself with the Catholic south of Ireland, which amounted to a greater division between Ulster and |

Perspectives on ChristianityChristianity as a religion has evolved over the years and so has the lifestyle that Christians live. Today Christians aren't as devout as they used to be, plenty still get baptized and regularly attend church but how many actually live the life that Jesus wanted them to? Most Christians don't live that life but the bible says that as long as you accept gods grace you can be saved. I agree with the teachings of the bible and the Christian faith. Tradition, faith, and community drive the religion today this is my perspective on Christianity. The word religion means to bind together, this is a key idea to members of the Christian community because the worshipers are very community driven and want to help others by giving back. The idea of helping the community is what initially binds the people within the religion together. Also the bible teaches that if you give to the community it is a part of living a Christian life and a way to achieve salvation. Achieving salvation or reaching Heave |

Animals and Extreme Climate SurvivalSnow covered, frozen land, below freezing temperatures, and no food. How do animals and even some plants survive in such a cold environment? Animals that stay in such frigid temperatures have a set of skills that help them to adapt to such conditions. Every animal has its own way to adapt and is specific to them. Each animal needs to recognize the changing weather in order to prepare for what weather conditions might be coming next. Some of the changes they use to survive are adaptation, migration, hibernation and reproduction. Humans would not go unprepared into the cold neither do animals. We put on an extra layer or dress warmly to protect ourselves from the cold. We even have the ability to seek shelter from harshness of Mother Nature. A change they can make to survive is to make physical or behavioral adaptations that can help them to get through the changing weather. In order to stay warm, all the animals make some sort of physical change or changes to survive. All the animals in the cold grow new, thicker fur in the fall in order to stay warm and protected in the winter months. (Sciencemadesimple.com, par. 9). W |

Culture and English Language TeachingAbstract As long as languages appear, there have also been cultures. Culture is a vital part of the communication process. Consequently, it may be impossible for students to use the language appropriately without culture awareness. In fact, culture teaching in English Language Teaching has got more attention than ever before (Brooks, 1968). The aim of this paper is to identify the content, reasons and approaches culture teaching is applied in ELT classrooms. In this study, I collected and analyzed 13 articles on the Internet, journals as well as books. The content of culture teaching in ELT was categorized into aesthetic, sociological and pragmatic senses, with the emphasis on communicative aspects rather than knowledge information. It also proved the importance of culture teaching in ELT and identified cross- cultural approach as the most sensible one to follow. It concluded with three useful approaches implemented in culture teaching. These preliminary findings suggest that content a |

Science Lab - Lemons, Oranges and EnergyAbstract Lemons and oranges contain citric acid that can produce energy with the help of metals and electrons. Adding certain metals and fruits can make just enough energy to power different electrical substances. The purpose of creating batteries out of fruits was to experiment with voltage power and to find another way to charge a cellular device. The researchers thought this project would attract people because technology is popular, therefore charging a phone without an outlet would be intriguing. To perform this project, the researchers started with the lemons. First, they cut off the USB head of the cable and stripped the wires. Next, they will cut holes in opposite sides of the lemon, then put the zinc nail on one side, and the penny on the other. The researchers then took the voltmeter and measured the voltage coming from one lemon. After that, they took the dual headed alligator clips and attached all of the lemons together (one on the cathode and the other on the anode). Afte |

The High Cost of Health CareThe cost of health care has never seen a dip. It just gets more expensive and the results are not always what we want them to be. But we keep paying the price because for some people, there is no other choice. About 50 million Americans do not even have health insurance and with a burden like that, comes pricier medication. Since 1945, the pharmaceutical industry moved from little new drug growth to researching the environment from thousands of chemical compounds for a specific disease. Exploratory Essay - The Effect of Divorce on ChildrenThroughout human history, people have seemingly tied the love they had for each other through the legal binding called 'marriage'. When two people come together for marriage, it is not typically on their mind to end the marriage in a harsh divorce, it is more times than not the exact opposite. While the true definition may vary, depending on where you are in the world and what religion one is recognized with, the base is the same, two people are together for what should be a lifetime. There are many different reasons why people may get wedded, in some countries and cultures, it is because they have to, or because the family makes an offer in which they are unable to refuse. For example, in India, China and even Japan, there are places where arranged marriages is a part of the culture. However, in other cases, marriage may be the way to a better life, or the women was expecting. Whatever the reason is for getting married, the normal wedding liturgy includes the lines: "Till d |

The writings of history were questioned and historians became famous when making the study of history a discipline and made sure that the writings therefore are backed up with evidence and close critique. Chapter 11 of the historiography packet specifically focuses on identifying and describing the major trends, philosophies, and contributions of the influential scholars that have shaped the evolution of the western historiography over the last 3,000 years (RWR5). It was said that the historical writings began with the Hebrews and Greeks. During the first millennium BC the Jews saw themselves to be special in the eyes of their God. The Jews writings were very God centered and based on faith. The Jews did not use primary sources to back up their writings. Consc |

The Philosophy of UtilitarianismUtilitarianism is ultimately the child of egoism and Kantian Duty. It can be defined as what an individual views as being best for them and the people surrounded by them who are affected by their actions. It is then broken down into two units, act utilitarianism and rule utilitarianism. Evaluating actions and selecting one over the over based on which one produces the greatest amount of happiness is act utilitarianism. So on, rule utilitarianism is determining the morality of an action based on the value of its consequence if the rule was to be followed. Stephan Darwall analyzes Mill's theory of both and gives his objections and contradictions that shines a different light on the outcome of the theories. "A criterion of what makes an action the right thing to do" is how Darwall decides to define act utilitarianism. Before critiquing the theory he lays out all the components that play a role in it. He begins by pointing out that act utilitarianism is a quantitative principle that emphasizes on the measurement of happiness. Cont |

Working Hard and FocusingThroughout all my years in school, I have created a habit of always waiting until the last minute to do an assignment or to turn a finished one in. I have always been able to make it up with no worries or regards to the consequences. But, early in my senior year, I was made to realize I could not be doing that anymore. I nearly had to find out the hard way. Leading up to my senior year as a junior I began hanging out with a different group of friends. The type of friends your parents would not approve of. I wasn't popular or a total loser, I was an in-betweener. These guys are the type that like to party, always have girls around, and just have fun. So when they asked me to start hanging with them and I jumped at the idea. My parents didn't mind much because I was doing fine in school. But then I started skipping class nearly every day. I ended up with over 100 absences in the last semester and only passed two classes. I didn't think it was a big deal because they weren't core classes. Fast forward to senior year registration, where I thought I was going to sign up for my classes, pay a few fees, get my ID card and |
