The Space Race and Apollo 11Landing a man on our moon has always been a dream of the entire world. President Kennedy had shown the world that this dream could become a reality. It was the mission of Apollo 11 to land two men on the moon, and then return them safely to Earth. As we look back in time this was amongst the most memorable accomplishments of mankind. This demonstrates what man can do with perseverance and unbreakable determination, along with much research, time and resources. The "space race" started with the Sputnik satellite. The U.S. put a man on the moon to complete and finish this race to the moon. The Soviet Union initiated this "space race." The first step in sending a man to the moon was sending a satellite into space. History changed on October 4, 1957, when the Soviet Union effectively propelled Sputnik I. "The world's first artificial satellite was about the size of a beach ball, weighed only 183.9 pounds, and took about 98 minutes to orbit the Earth on its elli |

Encomium/Invective - Inclement Weather PoliciesAnalysis The main audience for this argument is the University of North Texas' students, especially the ones that don't live on campus and have to commute a long distance. When there is inclement weather, these students are forced to make a decision of either playing it safe and staying at home or risking it by coming to school and maybe crashing. This PG does a good job in explaining some of the hardships but also good things that happened while the snow storm was going on. It makes good arguments and gives good examples, even a source was brought into the paper which allows it have more credibility. Invention Invective The University of North Texas' administration should only be praised if it is accomplishing its policies of doing its best to accommodate the student's safety involving any obstacles that they may come across as they are trying to get to school. In the beginning of December, when the snow storm was at its peak, administration failed to provide students with reason |

Philosophy - Answering the Questions of LifeA prevailing view of philosophy is that it is just, "innocent but useless trifling, hair splitting distinctions, and controversies on matter concerning which knowledge is impossible." One of the assertions of this viewpoint is that the study of physical sciences is more useful due to the direct product of invention that results (Russell). The idea here is that the source and intent of scientific research and discovery is to produce physical things that allow us better lives (Schiller 209). Philosophy is specifically focused on questions of existence, spirituality and morality, things that do not produce physical invention. Therefore, if the only use of science is producing invention and Philosophy doesnt produce invention then philosophy is useless. It is certainly true that philosophy does not produce physical inventions. According to F. C. S. Schiller, Philosophers hold the viewpoint that it is a, "sacrilege and profanation to demand practical results from their meditations." He ev |

Paying College AthletesShould college athletes get paid while they do a sport? This is a question I have asked myself through high school when I was ready to go play baseball up at Husson. If I have to put in that much effort into a sport and can't get a job because of all the time I need to spend practicing, should I make a little bit of money doing it? As college students we have expenses from gas for your car to food to keep you healthy, with no money from a job coming in and parents don't like you begging for money to pay for everything. This is a question that I felt like would be a good topic seeing as it is something that I am very interested in. My claim is that I believe that they should deserve to make something for their time playing. On average a College athlete will spend about 6 hours a day for his particular sport plus the average of 3-5 hours of class. These activities like workouts, training, practice, study group, film, mandatory homework time, and more make it difficult to try to get a j |

The Growing Epidemic of DiabetesDiabetes mellitus is a disease that in recent decades has shown progressive increase in its incidence and prevalence worldwide, In the us from 2006 to 2011 the incidence of this disease has increased as this scientific article says, "Among nearly 7 million adults aged 20 years or older, we estimated annual diabetes incidence per 1,000 persons overall and by age, sex, race/ethnicity, and body mass index. We identified 289,050 incident cases of diabetes. Age- and sex-adjusted population incidence was stable between 2006 and 2010, ranging from 10.3 per 1,000 adults (95% confidence interval (CI): 9.8, 10.7) to 11.3 per 1,000 adults (95% CI: 11.0, 11.7). Adjustedincidence was significantly higher in 2011 (11.5, 95% CI: 10.9, 12.0) than in the 2 years with the lowest incidence. A similar pattern was observed in most prespecified subgroups, but only the differences for persons who were not white were significant. In 2006, 56% of incident cases had a glycated hemoglobin (hemoglobi |

The Social Justice Issue of Rising Tuition FeesAristotle, a great philosopher, once said "The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet," unaware that this fruit of education would one day be expensive. As students pass through their primary and secondary education, they are, in most cases, financially supported, making education virtually free for the current generation. However, higher-level learning has a price tag, and an expensive and rising one at that. It is this fee that discourages future scholars from continuing with their education. The rise of tuitions are most definitely a social justice issue that needs the attention and awareness of the society in order to prevent the dissuasion of furthering education. The rising entrance fees for post-secondary education is becoming a larger problem than the public believes it to be. As the affordability of education begins to decrease, so does the enrollment to these schools, and in the end the number of educated scholars drops. A report by the Canadian Centr |

A Guide to the Canadian GovernmentCanada is like the house for all the Canadians to live together. Therefore, they need a system for their home. It includes the head of the house (Prime Minister), the people who make house roles (laws) and the supplies, equipment they share in the house (public service) etc. Canada has its own unique system of government. In general, it starts with the community where people live, and when there are many people in the community, decisions are much more complicated to establish. This is when organizations are needed; in other words, that is government. Government provides many things for people; for example, the public services (Library, Park, Hospitalsetc.). Besides that, the government also creates Laws (Bicycles, cars Laws, Seatbeltetc.). The definition of the government: A group of people come together to organize their affairs and decide how to get things done! The type of system of government we have in Canada is "Democracy". It is inherited mainly from the western Eur |

Africa Rising in Rural EthiopiaAfrica Rising is the story of a section in rural Ethiopia and it's rise out of poverty. Like many African countries, Ethiopia has an abundance of natural resources that when allocated properly hold the potential for the country's economic success. However, without the realization that these achievements may only come about by taking matters into the hands of the people rather than leaving them with a flawed government, progress will be extremely obstructed and slowed. The documentary highlights the efforts of Olu Mela, the man serving as the driving force behind the country's "Self-help project." The Self-Help project is an initiative to stimulate the economies of rural Ethiopia and the Sodo region of the country. Through the program, village citizens no longer work for foreign aid; i |

Chasing Dreams and Happiness"Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" are undoubtedly some of the most powerful words ever documented. These words have been an instrument in the social landscape of the United States since they were penned in the Declaration of Independence. As a matter of fact, America is the only place where the "pursuit of happiness" is actually guaranteed in writing. But then again, they are just words. What exactly is this "pursuit" that society has regarded to be so sacred? As defined by most Americans, including writers Jeffrey Kluger and Mike Martin, it is the manner of chasing your dreams and developing a lifestyle filled with both achievement and reward. Others, including foreigners and author Eric Weiner, view the pursuit of happiness as an escape from inclement or adverse social and political lifestyles, often beyond their own control. Regardless of your background, the pursuit of happiness is often regarded by most of us as our ultimate goal – t |

Persuasive Speech in Praise of Science and TechnologyRecently there's been an influx of videos, poetry and art that warn against the use of our phones, the use of our laptops, the use of the internet in general. Possibly the most popular example of this is a video called "Look Up". It made the rounds on facebook a while ago, and it laments, in the form of voiceover poetry and a montage of various shots of people using their phones and computers, the fact that teenagers never seem to look up from their phones. These creations are well meaning, but nauseatingly sanctimonious and honestly, they're completely off the mark. Technology is one of the greatest tools we have at our disposure, enabling us to maintain old relationships and forge new ones, to educate ourselves on the subjects we care about and to provide a safe space for people that have none in their everyday lives. Technology also works in tandem with science to physically improve life on a day to day basis for literally countless people. How could anyone believe them to |

Facing Ethical DecisionsDependable adults are going to be faced with an ethical decision at least once in a lifetime. This is an idea that includes settling on a reasonable choice they have been debating on. Now and again it is a matter of examining a situation and understanding of what you know while checking on positive circumstances and weaknesses. The majority of people want to do the right thing because they have just been raised that way. Some people may know the right decision by instinct or past experience. There may be times in which I need to consider a decision and why it is correct, different times I may need to research my past, the feeling of being right to have more proof to support my decision. Just like other college students, I realize that I have many difficult decisions ahead of me, and I understand no matter what choice I make, I have to deal with the outcome that happens. Although I am not sure what job I want after college, I have always liked real estate. I thought about the decision |

Intellectual Property Infringement of 3D Printing AnalysisWhen Clayton Christensen, professor at Harvard University, coined the phrase "disruptive technology", he was speaking of a process by which a product or service takes root in the bottom of a market and slowly rises, displacing established competitors (Disruptive Innovation). Enter 3D printing, a technology with endless potential, both good and bad. So what exactly is 3D printing? Michael Weinberg, in his article, aptly titled "It Will Be Awesome If They Don't Screw It Up", simply states that a 3D printer is "a machine that can turn a blueprint into a physical object." This is intriguing for a number of reasons: there is no supply chain required, there is no need for a team of researchers and developers, and no pesky lawmaking bodies to navigate. Herein lie the problem and the focus of our paper: 3D printing could be an intellectual property nightmare. 3D printing, especially in regards to intellectual property law, poses a number of issues. It is important |

Brand Awareness on Consumer Purchase IntentionRecently, the rising of consumer consciousness has made consumers choose to purchase their familiar and favorable brand. Therefore, if businesses want to defeat their competitors, they have to make consumers love to buy their products and brands. Macdonald and Sharp (2000) mention that even though consumers familiarize and are willing to purchase a product, brand awareness is still an important factor to influence purchase decision. When consumers want to buy a product, and a brand name can come to their minds at once, it reflects that product has higher brand awareness. Consumers' purchase decision can be influenced if a product has higher brand awareness (Dodds, Monroe, & Grewal, 1991; Grewal, Monroe & Krishnan, 1998). This explains why a product with higher brand awareness will have higher market share and better quality evaluation. In addition, while consumers select a product, they care about perceived quality and brand awareness. Perceived quality can help consumers to have a sub |

The Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978The Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 was enacted to protect pregnant women against various types of discrimination in employment (Riede, 1997). In terms of discrimination, pregnant women faced various acts owing to their state of being pregnant. Such acts includes failure to secure employment or being fired because of being pregnant. The enactment of the act was mainly fuelled by the increased power of women rights movements (Stolzy, 1996). The period between the 70's and the 80's witnessed an increase in the power of women right groups that advocated for the rights of women in the society. Coupled with the fact that more women were trying to enter formal employment, the bargaining power of women shot up and rules and regulations had to be enacted to protect such women. Because of the increased number of women seeking employment, the cases of harassment and discrimination, especially against pregnant women also shot up (Riede, 1997). Employers began firing women who became pregnant |

Learning Disabilities and Inclusive ClassroomsReports from the Conditions of Education show that there have been dramatic increases in the number of students with disabilities who spend majority of their day in an inclusive classroom. In 1989, 31% of students with disabilities spend the majority of their day in the regular classroom. Twenty years later in 2009, the percentage of students in the general classroom had risen to 59% (2013). The goal for educators of those with special needs is to create the least restrictive environment for them at all times. For many students with Learning Disabilities, the least restrictive place for their growth most of the day is in the general classroom, often times with some sort of aide or assistant. But as it is with many students who require special care, there may be one or two specific subjects where being in the general classroom would not be beneficial because the student is already significantly behind the class and needs individualized lessons to work at the level they are currently at. |

Contributing to the Common GoodReally educated people choose a vocation that contributes to the common good anticipating the personal rewards of giving back and optimistically paying it forward. This group of individuals is in an elite category of their own. Choosing this type of profession is not about the amount of money that one can or will make, but the sheer enjoyment of putting a smile on someone's face or making a small gesture that might change ones life forever. For instance, let's take a look at Brandon, a perfect example of this elite group of individuals. Brandon has recently graduated from college with a business administration degree; therefore, one would assume that Brandon would be interested in looking for a job associated with business. Brandon bewildered everyone when he proclaimed that his dream job would be to mentor and coach children. Brandon's choice would make one ask, "Why a business administration degree to mentor and coach children?" Brandon grew up in a small, rural community |

Economic Development and the Environment in VietnamEconomic development is a broad measure of welfare in a country, its indicators include: health, education, GDP per capita and the preservation of the environment. Vietnam, an emerging economy in transition, has endured a series of economic reforms since the government's decision to implement Doi Moi – Renovation or Reconstruction - in 1986. The fundamental objective of Doi Moi is to reduce the government's control over economic outcomes and to improve economic relations with other countries. In general, the policy of Doi Moi has resulted in private ownership of the country's resources and the convergence of Vietnam with the rest of the world. Overall, the forces of globalization – the integration of different economies and countries and the increased impact of global influences on all aspects of life and economic activity – has had both a positive and negative impact on the economic development of the Vietnamese economy. Decline of Traditional Native American CultureAll over the world, you can find an immense number of different cultures; some very similar to one another and some completely unalike. Some ancient cultures have completely changed or have sadly even been forgotten entirely. The culture of the Native Americans has definitely not been an exception to this over the past years in America's history. Once long before the European settlers arrived in America, unique ways of live thrived which have today have almost disappeared. From religion, to clothing, and even Native American food, the culture is just not the same as it once was. With the European settlers came an enormous influence of western ways of life that impacted the native civilizations in countless ways that would never be undone. Although the traditional culture of Native Americans has significantly declined, there are still many attempts happening today to keep the traditional values alive. The Native Americans lived a very simple and peaceful way of life. Although there |

Iago's Deception in Othello"There is more to it than meets the eye." - W.H. Auden Lies and deceptions are common in today's world; they often hide the inner appearance of a person's identity. They mask the individual's true motives with a veneer. In Shakespeare's Othello, Iago is no different than a deceptive individual who lives two lives: a trustworthy friend in front of people and a mysterious self-centered manipulative villain who is governed by hate. Shakespeare had observed that there exist perfectly sane people in whom fellow feeling of any kind is extremely weak while egoism is virtually absolute, and this he made Iago (West 34). Throughout the play Iago commands other characters of Othello like chessmen. His unclear motive and shrewd manipulative strategies give him an edge over his preys. Iago uses his victims' weaknesses and emotions to influence his ideas over them: Roderigo's obsessive lust for Desdemona, Othello's doubt and Cassio's trust. The act of Iago's manipulation begins right fro |

Even Jennifer Lawrence was shortchanged." written by Sally Kohn. In this article, Sally Kohn unveils the current events of gender gap in America by writing about the inequity pay associated in the life of actress Jennifer Lawrence. Changing Culture of 1960's AmericaThe 1960's are reminiscent of tie-dye, protests, and rapid change. At the peak of the Cold War, the war in Vietnam was a catalyst to the strong emergence of counterculture. Those who joined the non-conformist movement often held liberal ideas and unique appearances. Also, the Civil Rights movement had finally gained momentum with the passage of many laws that integrated blacks into white society. In summary, the Vietnam War led to a new type of counterculture that sparked American youths' interest in politics and social justice while the Civil Rights movement was becoming successful in tearing down white supremacy; both being turning points in American society. The war in Vietnam began because America was taking a stand in the fight against communism. Viet Cong were North Vietnamese who were in favor of communism while the South Vietnamese were democrats supported by America. The Vietnam War was extensively bloody, controversial, and monumental in |

The General Purpose of EducationEducation is defined as "the act of acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and preparing oneself intellectually for a mature life." Society would collapse if people did not go to school to become educated. Not one person would be smart enough to sit in a leading position and know how to make the correct decisions. The general purpose of education is to give everyone an opportunity as a means to succeed in life by providing the perfect place for critical thinking and for personal opinions to develop. It is very easy to take education for granted and overlook how significant it is in life and the impact it has on people, the world and the future. In the year 2014 people who have had a complete college education made 98% more money an hour on average in the United States (New York Times). Children go to school everyday not realizing that this place really serves a purpose in their life and future. Education is the means in which people can prosper in |

The New Era of CyberbullyingIntroduction Bullying-its one of the most common occurrences on schoolyards, in the halls, and even in the classrooms. Parents, teachers, and students all can say they have at least seen some type of bullying in their lifetime. Li (2006) defines bullying as "a specific type of aggression in which (1) the behavior is intended to harm or disturb, (2) the behavior occurs repeatedly over time, and (3) there is an imbalance of power, with a more powerful person or group attacking a less powerful one. This asymmetry of power may be physical or psychological, and the aggressive behavior may be verbal (eg, name-calling, threats), physical (e.g., hitting), or psychological (e.g., rumors, shunning/exclusion)" (p.163). Bullying is something that school districts, parents, and the public have taken serious notice of-even more so in recent years. Today with the advancement of the internet, bullying has developed beyond physical aggression to include cyberbullying. According to the Megan |
