My Favorite Childhood PlaceWe all have a favorite place in our childhood. That place where we can hide ourselves from the world and its problems. That place is where we can spend hours and hours enjoying our time and making plans for the future. There we can create our own imaginary friends, who spend the time with us and accompany us on the path of life until we are older and ready to follow it alone. That place should be comfortable for us. It must represent security and protection to make us feel nothing bad can happen there: it should be our refuge. Although my favorite childhood place was a simple stair, how incredible were the moments I spent on it. The first time I discovered how nice it was spend time on the stairs of my house in Mexico, was because of a childhood fight with my mother. I still remember that fight. Now it may sound funny, but then for me, it was the hardest fight I ever had with my mother. It was when I was only five, and finally the next day I would be six years old. I was excited and I |

Understanding Human and Women's RightsAll around the world, humans yearn for one thing: to be free. Unfortunately, being free isn't so easy to achieve in other countries than it is in the United States. Nations around the globe have enforced constitutional democracy as an ethical norm in order to help protect the rights of citizens. The ability to "be free" is all branched down to the protection of human rights, as well as women's rights. Cyrus R. Vance proclaimed three essential parts of human rights. These three parts include the right to be free of violations of the integrity of the person (torture and arbitrary arrest/imprisonment), the right to the fulfillment of vital needs (shelter, food, education, and healthcare), and last but not least, the right to enjoy civil and political liberties (freedom of thought, religion, assembly, speech, and the press; freedom of movement both within and outside one's country; and freedom to take part in government) (Reimer p. 369). Although there is no universal agreement of what the term "human rights" really means, it is argued to come down to one main claim: freedom. A perfec |

The Pros and Cons of Hydraulic FrackingHydraulic fracking has been going on since the 1940s. Today people in the United States and the world are concerned with the issues Fracking puts upon society. Fracking has become a very controversial topic. Hydraulic Fracturing is when a mixture of chemicals and water are pumped out of a drill and reaches into a gas well entering shale rock, high pressure causes the shale to crack and release natural gases. Fracking is a hot button issue in today's world because of the job opportunities and economic boom it has triggered, fear of contamination and public health, and the chaos it has brought to some communities. Hydraulic Fracturing (Fracking) supports 2.1 million American jobs and promises a more energy-secure future for our country (Energy From Shale). Fracking is also accountable for 75 percent of all natural gas development. By 2025 Fracking will support 3.9 million jobs in the United States (Energy From Shale). This is great news for the American economy. Fracking has boosted l |

Movie Analysis - PrisonersMise-en-scene is a French word that translates to "placing on stage." It refers to everything that appears in framing within a movie. These elements include actors, lighting, props and costumes. Cinematography also plays a huge role in the mise-en-scene within a film. In the movie "Prisoners," the director (Dennis Villeneuve) does a fantastic job incorporating key elements in order to portray the films mood. The film is based on Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman) and his family dealing with the abduction of their daughter. Keller also has a problem with law enforcement as they refuse to specifically follow all of Dover's requests. Keller also has a strong inner conflict with himself as this film develops. The theme throughout is self imprisonment and is very well depicted through the cinematic elements of the film. I first want to talk about the name of the film. The title "Prisoners" suits this film very well. The name of this film gives us significant insight on the overall feel |

Second Language Apprehension StudyAbstract This research was made in order to acknowledge which of two different studies made regarding second language apprehension is of the most importance when it comes to general human development. The studies differed in certain ways; one discovered a relation between the ability to learn patterns and the ability to learn a second language, while the other one found that having and informal approach to the language (games) enhances learning a second language, regardless the person. The studies were analyzed and compared; and it was concluded that the second study was the one that contributed the most to human development for its information can be used more directly and efficiently to help people learn a second language. 1.0 Introduction A study investigation was done with the purpose of comparing two different scientific findings and establishing which one contributes the most to human development in general. The two scientific advances regard discoveries on the way people learn |

Artificial Intelligence and the Human RaceArtificial Intelligence is an area related to creating intelligence for machines. Since a hundred years ago, scientists have tried to develop a machine which it can think and decide like a human such as Electromechanical Brain. In computer technology advancement era, all scientists could tell the world, there is a high probability to create an intelligent robot; an intelligent machine which can deceive and defeat one human in the fair race; in that way, which the human think it was a man not a machine. (Bostrom 12) In today's world, technology progress is extraordinarily more than the past. Google, Microsoft, IBM, Silicon Valley, NASA and X-Space companies are several examples of Artificial Intelligent world. Those companies can make high intelligent machines which might decide and act based on its algorithm which is defined by human. Recently, world's most renowned scientists and technology entrepreneurs claimed that there will be a threat to human race future according to AI advancem |

Summary of The Gods Must be CrazyIntroduction Although technology has its obvious benefits, such as easy access to information and the development of new tools, it also produces detrimental effects on society. Since technology is both scarce and valuable, its presence causes innate feelings of jealousy, stress, and violence; furthermore, technology is not a necessity, but a luxury rather. Technology makes our lives easier, but we have always had the capacity to survive without it. For instance, the invention of the cotton gin did not lead to the use of cotton, but instead allowed for a greater amount of cotton to be utilized. In The Gods Must be Crazy, Jamie Uys illustrates the harmful introduction of the "evil thing" to Bushmen culture, but she also exposes the profound ripples that technology imprints on modern societies. Jamie Uys also does an excellent job portraying the real similarities between Botswana and American society. Throughout my paper, I hope to prove that technology has a negative impact on |

Marriage EqualitySame-sex marriage has been argued and protested over for many years. While many are against same-sex marriage, many more are pro-gay marriage. Although same-sex marriage is not a matter of politics, it has become a fight for one of America's most acknowledged constitutional right. The fourteenth amendment guarantees equal protection and due process of the law to all U.S. citizens, therefore many fight for what they believe to constitutional. Same-sex marriage has been argues as an unconstitutional and has come about court rulings, lawsuits and legislations. Today more than half of America accepts gay marriage, but not all states allow or respect same-sex marriage or conduct. The argument of weather same-sex marriage is constitutional or not has become a large issue. In 1967, the case of Loving and Virginia, the Supreme Court ruled unconstitutional all laws that restricted marriage based only on race, but now there is a larger constitutional problem with same-sex marriage. In 1988, mos |

Arabs, Jews and the Promised LandDavid Shipler, author of Arab and Jew: Wounded Sprits in a Promised Land, wrote his book in 1986 after serving as the bureau chief of The New York Times in Jerusalem from 1979-84. The biggest and most important them of the book reflected the struggle between the Jews and Palestinian people in their search for their own homeland. The author references the Law of Physics, saying that "two objects may not occupy the same space"; this is two say that the people there are not a unified nation but rather two distinctive peoples and political entities laying claim to the same place to call their own. It personifies the constant uphill battle between Palestinian Nationalism and Jewish Zionism and the effects of this long term conflict on both people and future generations. This concept is reflected by both sides and the unique dynamic present in Jerusalem in the early 1980s. The two sides have a skewed perception of the other as well as misguided racial stereotypes, and some have ver |

The Prodigal Son and ForgivenessEmotions are the root of the human condition. These feelings we experience are in place in order, from a evolutionary instinct stand point, to help one figure out what is going on around him or her. Forgiveness is a trait that is easier said than done. It entails letting go of all the emotions attached to the resentment towards another person and just letting them be bygones without any other emotion evolving from doing so. Thus, making the act of forgiveness one of the hardest things humans have to do. "The Prodigal Son" gives a tactile viewpoint on the conditions of forgiveness and how it should be acted upon. In the parable the reader is only presented with three main characters: the eldest son, the prodigal son, and the father. These characters help to establish the different positions of forgiveness. The prodigal son is estranged and seeks forgiveness, the eldest son is used to have the perspective of the on looker, and the father is the focal point of the story to which |

Gun Control in the United StatesThe topic of gun ownership remains a source of intense debate in the United States today. Proponents to revising gun control laws argue mainly of the dangers of widespread gun ownership. The opponents usually argue individual rights of self-protection and their right to bear arms. What really are the problems of current gun control issues? Does the increase in mass school shootings indicate the time to change our ways? Mass shooting may possibly even provide the worst basis for supporting gun control (Kleck). Is there a connection between the crime rates and gun control and how can we directly apply them to the problems society currently faces today? There is even the possibility that the laws being brought into question may even be the wrong path. Instead of trying to force the removal of guns from being owned, why don't we try to figure out why most of the public carries guns in the first place? There are many different arguments regarding the topic of gun control and they will be e |

Legal Issues of the NCAAA huge issue in the world of sports is the debate of whether or not NCAA College athletes should be paid. Those who support the idea of college athletes being paid point out the amount of money the NCAA is making because of the performance of the players. On the other side of the debate, people argue that paying college athletes will take away the passion of college athletics. Both of these sides have many other argument. In this paper I will explore these different opinions. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is a "non-profit" association that governs student athletes of 1,281 institutions, conferences, organizations, and individuals that organizes the athletic programs of many colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. There are more than 450,000 college student-athletes who compete annually in college sports through the NCAA. There are three divisions of the NCAA divided mainly by competition levels. Division 1 is the highest while divisi |

Sociological Imagination and Dilemmas of Youth"Neither the life of an individual nor the history of a society can be understood without understanding both" C. Wright Mills. The Sociological Imagination is fully grasped when one can separately understand the difference between private troubles and social issues. Personal troubles are an individual's own experience of a social problem, whereas social issues are related to social, culture and historical life of people. When considering abortion it greatly affects the individual and can have a variety of negative effects on the mother. When the rate of abortion increases, it can be expected that there is an issue within the society. Abortion has caused controversy and a public divide, where some feel it should be illegal whereas others feel it should be legal. In this example we can clearly see the relationship between the personal trouble and how it can become a public known issue. Veterinarian and Animal AppreciationA four year old, a puppy, and a true bond is how it all began. My love for animals has been very strong since I was a child. Everyone has had some type of pet and has thought about or even had some type of medical care for animals. A lot of animals have medical needs just as humans do. Veterinarians and animals are not as appreciated as human doctors and humans. Some people say that animal life is not as important as a human life, but a lot of people don't realize that humans and animals are not as different as a person would think. Studies have shown that animals can be used to help cure blindness and they share some of the same illnesses and diseases that humans have. To some people animals are like diamonds, and are cared for as well as their own children. I don't understand why a person would think that a veterinarian's job is easier or some what not as hard as a human doctors. Yes, a human doctor has to know how to take care of both male and female patients, but on the other ha |

Marijuana for Medical and Recreational UseTell me this doesn't sound familiar, you're playing with a younger sibling, friend, relative, whomever and you respond to them with a reply that their brain isn't quite capable of understanding and immediately, their repetitive "whys?" begin. Each why, searching for a different response each time to one before it. Even at such an early age, we are inclined to be critical thinkers. According to Gerald Nosich, critical thinking is a process in which an individual engages in thought that is reflective, relevant, authentic and reasonable (3-4). I have had the opportunity to stand on both sides of the fence when it comes to should marijuana be legalized. During the earliest stages of youth are when children are going to learn the greatest and share the largest amount of curiosity, similar to that of a critical thinker. Non-Profit Participation EssayVolunteering gave me the opportunity to change people's lives, including my own. It gives you the satisfaction of playing a role in someone else's life by helping people who may not be able to help themselves. In this paper I will explain what St. Philips' food pantry is all about, where it is located, what they do, who they serve, how they're funded, and how they benefit the community. Our community pantry is a result of a collaborative partnership between the North Texas Food Bank and St. Philip's School and Community Center, which neighbors the pantry and owns the property. According to the city of Dallas, the poverty level in District 7, which includes the food pantry, has increased 13 percent from 2000 to 2012. It had been a want of the school and community center's for about 12 years. The city of Dallas helped St. Philip's secure an abandoned liquor store next to the school and community center. Women in Classical Greek LiteratureIn reference to the Aeneid I believe it is absolutely possible for later works to be just as substantial as earlier works. The Aeneid is not a mere plagiarism of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey. It's true that Aeneas' wanderings in the beginning of the poem are reminiscent of the same perils that Odysseus faced on his journey home to Ithaca, such as Aeneas' encounter with the Harpies (3:245) and the Cyclopes (3:760). Aeneas then struggles to safely colonize the Trojans in Italy upon his arrival which mirrors Odysseus' rocky homecoming and slaughter of Penelope's suitors. The latter half of the Aeneid resembles the Iliad as war, spurred on by Juno, breaks out between the Trojans and the Latins in book VII and Turnus summons his warriors to defend their home (7:562) as Paris did at Troy. At first all of these similarities may appear to be a poorly veiled appropriation of Homer's epics, but that is far from the actual purpose of Virgil's epic. Virgil seeks to reveal the true reason for the Trojan War and Aeneas' journey to Italy to found the predeces |

Narrative Essay - Being a Teenage MomMy life changed dramatically when I became a teenage mother. When I was in high school, I became pregnant. It wasn't something I set out to do. Suddenly I was faced with a decision that ultimately would change my life. The first way my life changed was when I gave birth to my daughter. I was supposed to give her up for adoption at first. But as soon as I held her, I knew at that moment that being a mother to my baby was something I wanted to do. Caring for another human being other than myself at the age of sixteen was life changing itself. I had to make a huge adjustment and it was not easy. Barely having any sleep was hard enough, but waking up in the middle of the night every night was a whole other level. On top of that, I did not want to be a high school drop out just because I had a baby when I was sixteen years old. Everyone had doubt in me and was looking down on me. I wanted to prove everyone wrong. I was faced with many obstacles and it was a struggle but I overcame every o |

Fate in the Works of Thomas HardyAfter reading Thomas Hardy's poems, most readers will agree that his work focuses on darker, more serious subject matter than usual writers. Hardy's work, while dark and sometimes twisted, is still popular and has become a literary classic. This is because despite the pessimism, he presents the reader with underlying positive aspects to his stories through his focus on fate and man's destiny. Work by Thomas Hardy like "Hap", "The Convergence of the Twain", and "Ah, Are You Digging On My Grave?" all have a pessimistic tone to them upon first glance. A deeper examination of Hardy's reoccurring theme of fate's inevitable role in life reveals justification for life's unfortunate events such as the ones discussed in his stories. "Ah, Are You Digging On My Grave?" is an initially morbid poem. The entire focus of the poem is death and the speaker herself is speaking from her grave. The poem is dark and creepy at first. This poor, sad dead woman is |

Cherokee Indians Exhibit - Funk Heritage MuseumAs a class we went to the Funk Heritage Museum to choose an exhibit to write about. I chose the exhibit showing details and paintings of the Native American time Periods. In choosing this exhibit I thought I could learn more about how the Native Americans grew throughout their early years of living in North America, and how different time periods came about because of the changes of culture and religions. In the museum, I thought the descriptions and paintings could have had more information around the displays. To me it felt like I was seeing an image of the time period and having to guess or imagine what else went on during that time. The museum had the history of the Native Americans broken up into five different time periods: the Paleo Period, Archaic Period, Woodland Period, Mississippian Period, and the Historic Period. Each time period display could have used more detail to help viewers understand how the society of the Native Americans change and differ from one another. I am g |

Dogs and Breed Specific Legislation (BSL)Most people who hear of BSL does not know what it is. BSL stands for Breed Specific Legislation, in other words the government wants to control what breed of dog can legally owned. The next thing that comes to mind is the Pit Bull Terrier. This breed take the brunt of the storm with BSL, but according to Jodi Preis with the Blessed the Bully's website there are thirty different breeds that can and will be affected by this legislation (Preis). Almost always when we hear about of a dog attack threw the media, nine times out of ten it is a Pit Bull. The media does not tell the whole story of the attack, it only states the breed and how old the victim was. They should look at the whole situation, was the victim tormenting the dog before the attack happened. They also needed to look at the dogs' environment, all dogs are and can become territorial to a point, was the dog eating when the attack happened and other questions should be asked and shared with the public. The Societal Impacts of ImmigrationOne would think having a diverse population would be a positive aspect and a good trait to have as a country, but knowing the United States social and economic situations right now, you can point a finger at many things that cause tension within our country, especially the war on drugs, immigration, and education in the United States. Although the United States isn't a cartel filled country like many other countries, we are still deeply involved with trying to settle the war on drugs as it can affect the economy and the employment rate in the US. Immigration into the US also plays a big part with drugs in our country, as many immigrants smuggle illegal substances, which increases crime and causes the government to spend more on detention centers for these criminals. Today, immigration is one of the most feared things by many Americans because there is a threat to job security and strains the education system in the country, a reason being that almost none of these immigrants know or ev |

Theater Review - Thirteen ClownsAll thirteen of the clowns were part of a broad and significant family-type image portrayed in this play. Their relationship with each other set the mood for the audience throughout this play, as they were all different characters with extremely different personalities. For example, there was a clown who was shy, he kept appearing and disappearing at the beginning of the play however as time went by he became more confident in himself during the course of the play. In contrast to that clown, there were a few clowns with a somewhat 'bursting' energy. They were at time loud, used the space of the stage confidently and their body language was very noticeable. Other clowns were more the funny types, as their purpose was to make the audience laugh as well as the other clowns. The lead clown was very prompt and organised; she knew what the other clowns ha |
