The Six Primary Regions of the USA

We can distinguish six main regions in the United States: New England, the Mid-Atlantic, the South, the Southwest, the Northwest and the Midwest. The Mid-Atlantic is a region of Unites States which consist of seven states: New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. This region is located between New England and the South and is stretching from New York south to Virginia. New York is the third most populous state in the country. Its capital is Albany. The largest city – New York City is known as the cultural center of United States. It is divided into five boroughs: Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Richmond. The boroughs are divided into neighborhoods and each neighborhood has an individual ethnic character. The most interesting attractions of New York City are Times Square, Central Park and the Statue of Liberty which was a gift to the People of United States from France in 1886 to honor their friendship. Pennsylvania was primarily a

The Modernization of 17th Century Europe

Modernization in the 17th century Europe can be best defined as a period that embraced freedom of expression. This is obvious in how religious, political, economic factors have affected how the continent has expanded from limited and narrow worldview to a global and diverse one. The Dutch East India Company was an economic change that had a big affect on trading routes and commodities in Europe. The Protestant Reformation was a religious change the way people thought about Catholicism and Christianity. Also the Protestant Reformation was a political change because it changed who controlled the land and increased equality. In the document Dutch East India, Trade Network Company, was an economic change because of trade material exchanges and the way certain products was manufactured. The Dutch East Company replaced local trading networks into their own

Lady Macbeth's Role in Hamlet

"Behind every great man, there is a great woman." This classic saying may as well have been inspired by the role of Lady Macbeth in Shakespeare's "Macbeth." Arguably the most powerful woman in literature, Lady Macbeth sets all that transpires in the play into motion. Without Lady Macbeth's encouragement, her husband would never have realized his true potential and the evil he is capable of. Because she feels she is unable to commit the atrocities herself, because she is a woman, she persuades her husband to commit them for her. Lady Macbeth wishes to be stripped of her female compassion. However, it is the repression of her emotions that leads to her demise and makes Macbeth into the villain of the play. When the reader first meets the character of Macbeth, it is evident that he is ambitious, but has the tendency to self-doubt. This is where Lady Macbeth comes in. She knows that her husband needs a

Learning to Play an Instrument

Music is a part of humanity that makes us express or feel emotion. People love to listen to music as well as create it. Creating music is usually accomplished by playing a musical instrument. Musical instruments are something that not everyone can afford, and that not everyone can play. When someone thinks of whether or not they should begin to learn a musical instrument, they should think about what investments and sacrifices they will be making, what requirements a musical instrument demands, and compare them with the benefits, potential, and profit. A musical instrument is delicate, and takes time and skill to make. Because it is so hard to make, an instrument cost a lot of money. That is one investment a starting musician will have to make. Secondly, a person does not simply pick up a musical instrument and start playing like a world famous musician. A starting musician will have to find some way to educate themselves on how to properly play the selected instrument. Since there ar

Technology for Secondary Language Elementary Schools

Society today is filled with technology; everywhere someone looks, there is a different piece of technology. Technology has proven to enhance the lives of humans in every way possible, especially in education. It has been used to engage students for classroom learning with it's bright touchscreens and colorful applications for subjects including reading, vocabulary, math, and science by allowing students to explore a particular subject on their own terms. Using iPads to map out the solar system is much more engaging and interactive than staring at a piece of paper. Considering the focus of technology being used in everyday life and in general education classrooms, it's imperative that it continues to evolve and be incorporated into education, especially with language acquisition for young students. iPods can be used to support language development and content learning for elementary English Language Learners (ELL) (Min Liu, 2014), while other iPod or iPad applications can help to expan

A Comparison of Native American and African Cultures

Abstract this paper will explore the histories of both Native American and African American cultures and their interactions with the dominant white population in America. Influential historical events for each minority group will be highlighted along with the efforts of each group to try and attain equality with the white majority. Cultural characteristics of each group will be compared and contrasted as well as contemporary issues including land claims and inequalities in the justice system. Finally, impacts of these issues will be discussed in their relation to the classroom. A Comparison of Native American and African American Cultures Native American and African American cultures each have had their own long rich histories from before the white majority arrived in America. Each group has had their own unique languages, familial relationships, social relations, music and dance traditions, they have shared many common experiences over the past 400 years (Grim, 1995).This paper will

Hamlet - Themes of Revenge

Although "Hamlet" is classified as a revenge play, it is a widely acknowledged fact that in this work Shakespeare consciously challenges the traditional revenge genre unlike any other play before it. The theme of revenge in plays has always been a popular one, and the basic structure and components possessed by plays of this genre had been well established by the time Shakespeare wrote "Hamlet." It is obvious through previous revenge themed plays such as "Titus Andronic" that Shakespeare was more than capable of producing a play that adhered to these expected genre conventions, and so one can assume that "Hamlet" is not a 'failed' attempt at a revenge tragedy, but rather a deliberate confrontation of the genre. It is because of this that I agree with the statement that "Hamlet" disrupts and destabilizes audience expectations of what a traditional revenge drama should be. "Hamlet" begins much the same as any other previous revenge play, with the visits from the ghost of King Hamlet and

Vik Muniz - Brazilian Artist

Vik Muniz is an artist that works out of New York but born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Vik is use to working with different material and putting them together to form one big art piece. He stepped out of his comfort zone to not only showcase his talent, but to give back to the country and people from where he was born. Vik took on the project of collecting recyclable materials and turning those into an art piece. He reached out to the landfill called Jardim Gramacho, the largest landfill in the world at that time. Vik wanted to auction off some of his work to give back to those pickers and help them further their community. A theme that sticks out from Vik's actions is the life and dignity of the human person. As Catholics, we need to show love and treat every life with care and respect. Vik went to the place where the people didn't get any type of recognition and were treated poorly. He showed them affection and showed all of us that they have feelings and experience love and love lost. Ano

Issues of Legalizing Marijuana

Over the past decade there has been some controversy of whether the legalization of marijuana would be constitutional. Many believe there should be legalization of marijuana but put laws on how much we can consume and in certain situations. I believe it should be legalized because the constitution does not state that a federal government to regulate or ban substances that we choose to consume. Most states in the country have banned marijuana usage and possession in their counties but could in the future be legalized just as what happened in the Prohibition Era. Legalizing Marijuana would help the United States in revenue with the taxation in sales and could create millions each month and also save money from drug wars. Marijuana can be used as a legal and safe medicine to treated diseases such as Alzheimer's, Glaucoma and Cancer. There should be limitations on legalizing marijuana by who can access this drug and for certain conditions or even from a doctor's recommendation. Marijuana s

An Overview of Cloning

Hollywood is the place where imagination comes to life, even if it will never be possible or quite frankly, against the law. Human cloning is good example of what is seen in movies. As people dwelled on the thought, especially after Dolly the sheep was born, it has become a realistic issue that is seen within our laws as well as on screen. In movies that portray the act of cloning, you see many different issues present and most of the films I found followed a very similar story path as to the complex complications that would come with cloning. Cloning is first seen as a solution to live forever and a way around incurable diseases (The Island 2005). They say it will be a way for us to save lives, for families to save that child with failing lungs or replace a child with a brain tumor (The Sixth Day 2000). They first show the social interaction the clone has within society. To begin with, no one can even tell who is a clone and who is not. However, once the secret is out they are rega

My Determination to Succeed

I never realized just how rough our situation was. My mother has always been a hardworking woman dedicated to raising my brothers and me. Even though she was not supporting us financially, her job as a mother to support my two brothers and me was a more tedious one. My father, on the other hand, has been providing for us since the young age of eighteen. His first job consisted of him working sixteen or sometimes even eighteen hours a day at a milk factory, milking cows in California for minimum wage. We lived in a city called Hanford along with two other families in a small house with only three rooms. These were hard and often weary times for us, but my father was always the best at keeping a positive attitude. My father is an ambitious man; he always wanted what was best for his family. He taught me the importance of making due with what little we had. We spent some time in Hanford, but my father was not looking to settle. A few years later, he took a gamble when an economic opport

Understanding Autism

"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along" (Eleanor Roosevelt). This is a good quote to resemble what kids and adults are going through when they have been diagnosed with a disease. Many children around the world are diagnosed with a different type of disease each year. Every year there are approximately 36,500 children born with the disease of autism. Scientists continue to study what autism is, what causes it, and how effective the treatments are. Autism is a difficult disease for most people to understand completely. A Swiss psychiatrist by the name of Eugen Bleuler was the first person to introduce the world to autism. Autism was discovered in 1911. Bleuler used autism to describe what adult schizophrenia is, adults who are withdrawn socially and generally keep to themselves (Parks 21). Autism is gene

Robinson Crusoe as the Prototype British Colonist

The novel, Robinson Crusoe, written by Daniel Defoe and first published in 1719, is an important literary piece of the Enlightenment period, as it expresses the Enlightenment themes of individualism, exploration and the rejection of authority. The poet James Joyce has described the character of Robinson Crusoe as the "true prototype of the British colonist"1, and Robinson Crusoe certainly shares many of the characteristics associated with British colonists of the period in which the novel was written. Robinson Crusoe exerts his manly independence by being the lone survivor from the shipwreck, his intelligence in ensuring his sustenance, and shows his well balanced approach to religion in order to comfort himself. These are all characteristics which explain why Joyce describes Crusoe as "the prototype of the British colonist"2. The relationship between Crusoe and Friday is also an important factor which explains what Joyce meant by his description of Crusoe, as Rob

Synopsis of Annual Report: Amazon.com

Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Amazon.com is an American electronic commerce and cloud computing company. It was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 and later went online by 1995. With humble beginnings as an online bookstore, and then moving onto selling music, videos and producing their own consumer electronics, Amazon.com has become the largest Internet-based Retailer in the United States. The 2014 Annual Report starts off by with a message from the CEO, Jeff Bezos. He initially starts off with the history of how Amazon.com started after which he talks about the different products and services that Amazon.com offers like Amazon Prime and Amazon Web Services. What I found most interesting in his letter was about the Career Choice Program that he had mentioned in which Amazon.com pre-pays 95% of tuition for employees to take courses for in-demand fields. It was great to see that Amazon.com provided opportunities to make a career change and they felt that they were only a

Conscription and the Vietnam War

The Vietnam War was a prolonged conflict, extending from 1954 to 1975, between the communist government of North Vietnam and the non-communist government of the South. Good Morning Afternoon. In Australia, public opinion on the war in Vietnam moved through several stages throughout its involvement in the war. Initially, the Australian public paid little attention and were largely disinterested in a war that included very few Australian troops. This however, soon changed; Australia's involvement in the war was increased with the calling up of conscripts. Public support for the war deteriorated rapidly and popular culture in Australia began to turn people away from the war. Images of horrific violence and executions were delivered on televisions throughout the country and many protest movements, songs and propaganda posters began to emerge. Consequently, this ensured hostility and a huge loss of public support which ultimately led to political leaders announcing the gradual withdrawal from the war. Conscription, also known as national service, is a system of enrolment where it is compulsory for men and women to join the armed forces

The Egyptian Revolution of 2011

Introduction There are several kinds of revolution, for example a revolutionary coup, palace revolution or mass revolution. A mass revolution can last very long, consist of huge masses and its intentions are more or less a fundamental change in the structure of political authority and the social system.1 This is mostly a sudden eruption of a suffering population because of a political apathy and economic uncertainty. In other terms a revolution is a process in which the political direction of a state becomes increasingly discredited in the eyes of the population.2 This mass revolution mainly accesses some levels of violence, because of the rebelling from either the government or another group who takes part in the mass revolution. In Egypt 2011 there were events that begun with similar features of a mass revolution. On 25th January, 2011 Egypt has been through a huge masses demonstrations against the political and economical situation of the country. But the events in Egypt 2011 can

The Intrinsic Valuation of Economics

I will start this essay by explaining some of the different concepts that are involved and different views on the intrinsic valuation of nature. Why economic valuations are necessary, some different views on valuations and for what they are used, what we understand by public and private goods, commons, and the cost benefit analysis. I will follow with a brief outline regarding the concept of the all affected principle, discuss some of the disadvantages of economic valuations, and conclude with my belief that although far from perfect, economic valuations are necessary. We must not forget that economic values are not the same as intrinsic values. There is value 'in' things and values 'of' things. Economic valuations are instrumental valuations by humans. Each person has his own values, social, cultural and moral, making it problematic to 'price' nature. The fact the subject is so interdisciplinary in nature and includes ecology, environment, economics, philosophy and

Business Forecasting and Territories

Abstract Joe has not been meeting his sales quota and he has so much pressure since he only has two weeks left in this quarter. The VP of Sales has informed the Sales Manager that he is not happy with Joe's performance. Joe was having a meeting with an important account, which he hoping to close a deal. He had the meeting but it didn't go as planned. As much as Joe tried to persuade the customer, the customer refused to get the product. Joe's Sales Manager showed frustration during the meeting and kept writing suggestions on pieces of paper and discretely handed to Joe. When the meeting ended, Joe's manager questioned if Joe had done some research about the customer before the meeting. This analysis expects to answer the following as asked in the scenario: "How might this sales manager's post-sales coaching session have been improved? What would you have done differently? What could he have said? How could he have helped Joe during the sales meeting? Should the sales manager have

Relationships and Intimacy

Every relationship starts differently, but there are certain techniques that should be considered in order to build a happy, healthy relationship. Some of the most important parameters are communicating with each other, being sexually active, arguing, and keep your partner purposefully wanting more of your presence. Most relationships come to a fall because there is not enough communication. As many people receive more experience with relationships, they learn that communication is key to eradicating problems between both partners (Gottman). Communicating is not just telling your partner the minor things that happened in your day, but the activities that had an impact on you and the opinions you have about it. Communicating this way is another practice of getting to know your partner and his or her opinions. Another important key to remember is to actually listen to your partner when they are talking to show that you are listening and care enough to hear their opinions about sig

Banning Assault Weapons

Bang! Bang! Bang! This was possibly the last sound which the twenty-eight victims of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary heard before they perished. The shooter, Adam Lanza, was equipped with an AR-15 assault rifle and a high capacity magazine when he decided to take the lives of twenty helpless children and six women that day. In order to prevent future attacks from happening and to protect the lives of citizens, a federal assault weapons ban must be reinstated in the United States. People who are against an assault rifle ban sometimes claim that a ban would not reduce crime. Thomas Sowell and people who agree with him believe that even if assault weapons were banned, the amount of violent gun crimes would not go down, because criminals will still find a way to acquire weapons. This is a sound claim, but, at the same time, the concept of making assault weapons harder to obtain should be agreeable to either side of the argument if the safety of American citizens was top priority. In countries where guns are not sold to private citizens, like China, the number of mass shootings is slim to none. In May this year, a man

Fredrick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs

During our horrific times of slavery there were two brave individuals that dealt with so many different negative aspects of slavery. In this essay you will see the difference of being a woman slave verses being a man in slavery. Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs have an ongoing fight of survival as they take their unrightfully place in slave life. These two authors were slaves and they were treated badly in their master's homes. . Freedom was taken away from them and despite the fact that they are in the mid of a war zone of rights, many people would not expect them to survive. Both of these authors a similar in a lot of ways and different in other ways. Jacobs and Fredrick both believe that they had a right to stand up to their slave owners. They were both mistreated and had to stand up for their beliefs. Frederick Douglas was determined to fight for his freedom. He was tired of being beat by Convey that didn't car

The Plummeting Marriage Rate

Many individuals in their lifetime get married, have families and in some cases divorce or never get married at all. Attitudes towards marriage have changed dramatically since the 1970s. These attitudes relate to gender roles and social changes in today's society and have contributed to women marrying later than their ancestors. Economic factors, a rise in feminism, attitudes about sex, educational pursuits, and divorce statistics all play important roles in the dramatic drop in marriage. As people are becoming less religious, cohabitation, couple living together without being married, is becoming more popular. Cohabiting was first look upon as sin and was very unacceptable for one to do. In the mid-1970s, only five percent of single women lived with a man before getting married. But by the 1990s, almost 70 percent of single women did. The public views cohabitating as the lead up to marriage, although most people in this situation tend to break up, it is seen as an alternative to marriage. This method is what most young couples are favoring. Using this metho

Historical Approaches to Management

Management, as it is known today, exists in all organizations. With the continuous growth of size and complexity of these organizations, it has become necessary to follow a defined and professional approach to the practices of management. Samson & Daft (2012) defines management as "the attainment of organizational goals in an effective and efficient manner through planning, organizing, leading and controlling organizational resources". The foundation to modern day management theory lies in the study of one of the oldest schools of management knows as classical management which emerged during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Its developers focused on efficiency and contained three subfields: scientific, bureaucratic and administrative management. Scientific Management was a theory created by Frederick Winslow Taylor, an American engineer. He believed that the limited success in organizations during the nineteenth century was was due to poor management practices r

Defining the Truth

What is truth? Ask a million people and over a million different answers one will receive . Truth can be described in more ways than one can imagine. Truth is all relative. The beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, every eye perceives beauty to exist in varying degrees. One may share the same beauties with another person and that is what love is about. Truth is defined by seeing, facts and by what you believe. Many people have many different views on certain subjects. While usually there are those who are in favor, neutral or against the topic, the lines are clear. Truth is viewed completely different by one another because not everyone shares the exact same upbringing. In "Shooting Dad", the rhetor always saw guns as these loud things that kept her dad busy all day. She was not particularly favored for guns like her sister and father. She associated the guns with her fathers obsession for them rather then their beauty. Seeing isn't always completely black or white because people can learn to love something out of hate. T

Bushfires in Australia

A bushfire is a fire burning out of control in the open. Bushfires can burn using grass, scrub or forest or a combination of these for fuel. Unless quickly controlled, bush fires can become large, spreading to affect forests, wildlife, crops houses and other buildings, and human life. Bushfires are a frequent occurrence in Australia in the hotter seasons due to Australia's mostly hot and dry climate. What Causes Bushfires? Bushfires are one of the most destructive forces of nature. The presence of fuel, oxygen and ignition source are the basic factors, which determine whether a bushfire will occur, or not. Even though bushfires occur naturally such as lightning and heat, many bushfires are started by human activity. These include cigarette buts, matches, glass bottles and machinery. Even if there were no human incidents, bushfires would still be started by lightning, as they were for many years before the arrival of humans on the Australian continent. There are Two Main Types of Bush
