The 1960s and the Rights of Women"When a young woman graduates from college and starts looking for a job, she is likely to have a frustrating and even demeaning experience ahead of her. If she walks into an officer for an interview, the first question she will be asked is "Do you type?" On May, 1969 in the House of Representatives, New York, Shirley Chisholm gives a speech about women equal rights. Shirley is an African American going through both prejudice and discrimination. Having enough of omen being treated like their "different or odd", Shirley gave a speech to the House of Representatives informing them of the terrible things women go through just because they are the opposite sex. Although women have rights today it was not always easy for them to accomplish equal rights, women had to go through not being able to vote, not having a job of high authority, and being treated unfairly until women finally achieved their goal. Women in 1969 were not allowed to vote due to men thinking w |

Say "YES!" to the Death PenaltyI was never really against God's will. Actually, at first, I really don't approve of the death penalty which was why it was very unfortunate that we are on the affirmative side. Then suddenly, all of my opinions and insights changed. After talking to my group mates about the topic, I went home and researched about the positive effects of having death penalty in one country. I learned that the crime rates decreases and you'd be more comfortable living in that country considering the fact that there's a capital punishment to scare murderers, rapists, kidnappers and bad people away. Although, some people who kills do not preferably do it. They just do it against their will either they are psychopaths or they were just drunk. But, if they did it on purpose, then and only then the murder would not be acceptable. Because that is consi |

Good Will Hunting - Psychoanalytic and HumanismINTRO: The word personality comes from the Latin word persona which means mask and is a dynamic and ordered set of characteristics possessed by a person that uniquely influences their emotions, and motivations in certain situations. Personality also refers to the pattern of thoughts, feelings, social adjustments, and behaviours repeatedly demonstrated over time that strongly influences one's expectations, self-perceptions, values, and attitudes. It also calculates human reactions to other people, problems, and stressful situations (American Psychological Association). The study of personality has an extensive and varied history in psychology with an abundance of theories being presented in order to explain the development of personality. These major theories include, psychodynamic, humanistic, biological, behaviourist and evolutionary. For the purposes of this report, in order to explain the behaviour of Will Hunting, the focus will be on Sigmund Freud's' Psychodynamic and Abraham Masl |

Literacy Narrative - Pick Up a Book and Read"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads only live once," said Jojein. This quote brings me back to my freshman year in high school in my English class. My teacher, Mrs. Julie Harrington, short with flawless brown skin and a serious look on her face entered the room always stressing the need to read novels and Shakespeare. I never understood the purpose of reading the boring Latin part of old English that was spoken in Romeo and Juliet. But once she placed that big blue book "The Lovely Bones" on my desk and I read the first page I started to realize the importance of her telling me this. I will never forget hearing the smack of the book hitting my desk and the dust cloud coming from me flipping and skimming through the pages of a book that would eventually change my outlook on books. There seems to be so many other things to do with my time. I was a cheerleader at the time so I was occupied with practice and games on Friday nights, Talki |

The Calamity of ImperialismDid you ever wonder why some countries are poor even though they are flourishing with natural resources such as diamond, rubber and fuel? For instance, Africa is an independent and prosperous continent with several ethnic groups and independent economic systems. All of the Africans were happy with their own economy and political system before the Age of Imperialism. Imperialism is the main trigger to the current situation in Africa where there are epidemic, slavery and famine. Imperialism is harmful to colonized countries and continents because it leads to the rapid spread of diseases, racism and creates scars inside the heart of victims. Imperialism occurs when a strong nation takes over a weak nation for the purpose of getting natural resources and dominates its economy, politics, and culture. After the Industrial Revolution, many European countries began a race to occupy many countries to take as much natural resources as they can. One of the most famous examples of European countr |

The Army, Democratization and an Authoritarian RegimeIs the army on the right road to democratization, or is it risking what some call "restoration" of the authoritarian regime in a new form? The internal affairs in Egypt, after the 25th of January uprising, have been in a state of political and social turmoil. Almost nothing has remained constant in Egypt for the past three years; positions have changed, alliances have changed, and the Egyptian people's overall view of things has changed, not necessarily to the better. Nevertheless, the question of whether the army is fit to rule Egypt under a democratic state remains the issue three years after what has been described as the biggest revolution in Egypt's modern history. However, is it right to assume that the army, as an entity, has been a uniform body acting out a certain agenda throughout that period, or is it that the army's position has changed since Mubarak's rule to the present day as a result of the changes in leadership? The first step in trying to find an a |

Victorian Women and A Doll's HouseThe ideal Victorian woman is represented as someone who is devoted to taking care of her family and is home-loving. She is kind, extremely sympathetic and will always obey her husband. Henrik Ibsen, a strong feminist supporter and well known author of several feminist stories, created the play "A Doll's House" to represent women in the Victorian Era. In this play, Nora Helmer plays the role of the Victorian woman who Ibsen utilizes to represent the gender inequality at that time. Through Nora's character, Ibsen represents the exploitation of women and demands equal rights for them by using symbolic language presented in the play. Prior to analyzing Nora's character in "A Doll's House," understanding the difference in gender roles during the Victorian Era is crucial. Said by Queen Victoria herself, "God created men and women different – then let them remain each in their own position." (Queen Victoria, Letter 29). Women during this era were considered |

Business Success StrategiesThe physics definition of success could be described as a complex energy field that has individual and collective components. Everything is energy, so that means we are energy. Energy changes things so we were put on this earth to change things that we encounter. During my time in Success Strategies I have learned that there are nine specific energy fields that all successful people have in common. Those energy fields are: 1) Be here, 2) Pursue Excellence, 3) Recognize and use the power of words, 4) Have super definitive goals, 5) Pursue wisdom, 6) Understand money, 7) Health, 8) Good Relationships, and 9) Collective Efforts/ Networking. The first complex energy field that all successful people share is being here now. That could be described as living in the present, not the future or past. Such as trying to do things for the now, instead of living in the past or even trying to do stuff for the future. Wherever one is at, they must be there. By being attentive and understanding you |

Dulche Et Decorum Est by Wilfred OwenDulce Et Decorum Est is a poem written by Wilfred Owen set during world war 1 written in 1917, and talks about the trials and hardships that soldiers went through. The persona tells of how he and his battalion are attacked with mustard gas and one of the soldiers not putting his gas mask on in time, suffers from the effects of it. Wilfred Owen aims the poem at the government of the time criticising their decisions and for perpetuating the attitude that it is heroic to fight as a soldier in war and honourable to die for the cause. Owen uses poetic devices such as the imagery of the soldiers face as he dies, similes that contrast the stereotypical image of a soldier and irony to directly attack the common war cries and attitudes used to recruit young men into the army during World War One and ultimately positions its reader to respond negatively to the issue of war. Dulce Et Decorum Est uses the poetic devices of similes and metaphors to contrast the stereotypical image of a soldier in a negative attitude. Owens use of |

Punishing Criminals and the Death PenaltyThere are multiple ways to punish one who has committed a crime, and the punishments are different based on countries and what crime it is. A few countries around the world are using death penalty as a punishment, which can be based on the saying 'an eye for an eye'. If you kill someone, it is also fair that you give up your own life, at least as respect for the family of the one you killed. How does it affect a country knowing, that if you do kill you will get killed, and is it the right way to do so? William Otis, the counsellor to the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration, wrote an article in 2006 by the name "Death Penalty Saves Lives", where he discusses the death penalty in the United States. He starts off by telling a story about a man, who arranged to have his quadriplegic son and wife killed. He hired a hit man, James Perry, who shot the victims and a private nurse. Perry was sentenced to death, and Lawrence Horn was sentenced to life in prison without p |

Product Procedures and Introductions1.0 Product Introduction Traditionally, novel products have provided immense opportunities for the society and firms to connect and provide value-added commodities. Selecting the appropriate item for the organization and its clients, nevertheless, may not be an easy task. Studies have shown that successful management boards of directors and other leadership teams typically establish and mitigate threats prior to considering and introducing fresh products. When risks are not clearly identified and mitigated accordingly, the unintended results might be costly and disastrous. Organization that successfully locates and launches new items typically maintains documented and auditable process to direct their decision-making process. In practice, this implies that the management team must develop and adhere to the policies and procedures that guide the process of introducing a new commodity (Henry 2008). The stakeholders must also document decisions appropriately and ensure that all the operat |

In Andre Dubus's "Townies," Mike's inability to properly integrate himself into society stems from the disturbing event of his father committing suicide. Breast Cancer - Pink is My Favorite ColorHow Pink Became My Favorite Color When we are young, we do not think of the unpleasant obstacles that could cross our path in life. We go through our young adult years living stress and care-free, not realizing that one day, we could be on top of the world and the next, we could barely be hanging on. My family and I all had that "barely hanging on" feeling when my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago because of a small bump that she found on her left breast. Cancer is a tough obstacle in life that can be overcame with the help of prayer, God, and the love and support of family and friends. It was a warm, sunny, summer day. I was a young, foolish fourteen year old without a care in the world. Nowhere did it ever cross my mind that in a couple of hours, I would be receiving some of the worst news I have ever gotten in my life. Walking into my house on that very day felt different. I did not receive the normal "Hi, how are you doing?" that I am usually |

CVS Stores and the Sale of Tobacco ProductsAccording to The New York Times article, "CVS Stores Stop Selling All Tobacco Products", written on September 3, 2014, the company is changing their name and rebranding themselves. CVS has decided to change the name on their stores from CVS Pharmacy to CVS Health. The biggest decision in the rebranding process was the choice to remove all tobacco products from the shelves. CVS wants to be the place to go for your retail health and they believe selling tobacco products in the stores is hypocritical to their vision of being a healthcare retailer. The healthcare in America is changing very much with new rules and regulations. CVS is trying to stay ahead of the competition with their recent moves. CVS Health CEO, Larry J. Merlo, said in a recent phone interview, "We're at the forefront of what we all see as a changing health care landscape." In relation to what has been discussed during Mr. Denham eight a.m. class, these decisions CVS is making directly correlate to three major things, CVS strategic plan, how they will compete against their rival firms, and how government regulations, outside of business regulations, can effect a com |

Till We Have Faces by C.S. LewisAs Christians, we are charged to love others. But what does this mean? In Till We Have Faces, this charge is clarified through three kinds of loves: Philia, Storge, and the ultimate love, Agape. These three are exemplified in the Fox's love for Psyche, Oral's love for Psyche, and the love Psyche has for others. The Fox's love for Psyche is like the love that a grandfather has for his grandchildren. He loves Psyche with a Philia love. Philia love is brotherly or Platonic love or a relationship between two close friends. Fox has this type of love for Psyche. He cares for, teaches, and loves Psyche with his whole heart. When Psyche happily refuses to return to the palace, and leave the mountain, the Fox Prevents Orual from acting rashly and taking her down by force. (147) By doing this, the Fox prevents Psyche from any physical harm Orual could cause her. When the king agrees to sacrifice his Psyche to Ungit and the Brute, the Fox says that if he was in th |

Police Officers and Uniform WebcamsIf the figure of speech "a picture is worth a thousand words" were true, then a video would be worth a million. Imagine if there was a video recording of every altercation, incident, or crime scene involving cops and citizens. With the seemingly increase of police excessive use-of-force allegations, law enforcement agencies have to answer to the communities all over America who demand change. In Euharlee, Georgia, a policewoman by the name of Beth Gatny went to a family's home to serve an arrest warrant which led to the fatal shooting of seventeen year old Christopher Roupe. Gatny believed that the teenager was holding a gun when he answered the door, instead he was only holding a Nintendo Wii controller. She was not charged in the teen's death due to lack of sufficient evidence (Stevens). Perhaps, if Gatny was wearing a body-worn camera (body cam or BCW), the results would have been different or possibly would not have happened at all. In my opinion every police officer shou |

The Breakfast Club and Good Will HuntingThe movies "The Breakfast Club" and "Good Will Hunting" demonstrated a wide variety of psychological traits. These two movies really showed how everyone has their own type of psychological traits. The first movie, The Breakfast Club, is about how five high school students have to spend their Saturday in detention due to their troublesome acts. Despite the fact that these students knew nothing about each other, they all faced the same pressures from their parents or social life. The students would never have been in contact with one another due to each of their social statuses like the rebel, the popular girl, athlete, nerd, and the crazy girl. However, towards the end of the movie the students realize that they all are going through similar pressures stowed upon by their parents. Even though they all got to know each other, the harsh reality is that they cannot be seen with each other or else their social status will be tarnished. The second movie, Good Will Hunting, is about an award |

North, South and the American Reconstruction PeriodThe sharp knife stabbed into the heart of the recovery plan of post-Civil War America; who held the knife? Reconstruction, the fight for rights of freedmen, the rejoicing plan for the north and south, the plan for America to become whole again. Although both the North and South are to blame for the killing of the Reconstruction, the South is most to blame. Certainly the North neglecting the South took part in stabbing the Reconstruction but also an immense amount of racism and prejudist towards blacks contributed to the failure (Doc a,b,d.) However, racism, Northern neglect, are not as critical to the killing as Southern resistance. The Southern society was transformed immensely after the Civil War. Southerners didn't want anything to do with Reconstruction, besides a few individuals called &quo |

Horses and Innate BehaviourHorses originate in many different sizes and colors and have a life span of between 25 – 30 years. The four natural paces for the horse are the walk, trot, canter and gallop. Horses genus is Equus, Equus comes from the ancient Greek word meaning quickness. The following terminology is used to describe horses of various ages: colt, filly, foal, gelding, mare, stallion and yearling. The innate behaviors that horses are born with, meaning behaviours referred to as natural, are suckling, standing, running and neighing. These behaviors tend to be nearly complete the first time they are expressed. Horses have specific dietary needs because they are herbivores and have a unique digestive system. Horses are a non-ruminant herbivore. Non-ruminant means that horses don't have multi-compartmented stomachs as cattle do. Instead, the horse has a simple stomach that works much like a human's. Their digestive system requires a high-fiber diet that is consumed in small amounts over a long time. Some of the foods they eat include, grass, hay, grains, concentrate mixes, salt and minerals and t |

Poetry Analysis - Daddy by Sylvia PlathThe livid, frustrated poem, "Daddy" by Sylvia Plath, is about a young woman who is forced to remember the death of her father. In the poem, Plath creates a formerly naive speaker, who adored her father, who passed away and was replaced with someone who possessed the same character traits: the speaker's husband. The absolutely cruel diction used in the poem describes the intense nature of the relationship the speaker had with the one she once loved through use of literary elements, such as imagery, metaphors, hyperboles, and rhyme scheme. Plath's imagery throughout the poem is extremely vivid. She uses diction that gives reader's a clue of the types of emotions the speaker keeps throughout "Daddy". Plath uses examples of Nazis and the Holocaust to direct every thought and emotion towards her caregiver. In the poem, the speaker says, "Daddy, I have had to kill you" (6), forming an image of the speaker being overrun with thoughts of her father. She has to liv |

Visions and Hallucinations in MacbethIn psychology, hallucination is defined as a profound distortion in a person's perception of reality, typically accompanied by a powerful sense which comes naturally from our own mind. However, this subtle but great nature may sometimes results in confusion between reality and false appearance, causes disorder of spirit, and eventually corrupts people's soul. Macbeth, the main character of William Shakespeare's famous tragedy, was a victim of his hallucinations. Began with the desire to sit on the throne, he took the risk of regicide against his morality, and then continued to murder more people due to his fear and ambition until his retribution came. Along the way, his visions and hallucinations contributed enormously to his downfall as they not only created his inner conflict and constantly reminded him of his crime and guilt, but also gave him false hope, and fed his ambition which was believed to be his hamartia. In this play, the floating dagger and the imaginary voice were his |

Characters in Gran TorinoThe meaning of wisdom is "the quality or state of being wise; knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgment as to action; brains or insight." In the movie "Gran Torino," Walt shows that as he gets older he gets wiser because at the start of the movie he is basically a bully but he changes and Father J he shows that as he gets older he gets wiser because at the start of the movie he believes he knows a lot about life and death and Thao he grows wiser as he gets older as he pushes himself away from a gang and makes better choices. Walt shows that as he grows older he grows into a wiser person because at the start of the movie people could put Walt into the class of a bully as he is very racist to everyone and he has a go at Father J you can tell he hates the Asians. To prove he hates the Asians here are some quotes "what are all you fish heads looking at anyway" "when I was in Korea we used to stack f@!*s like you 5 feet high and use them for sandbags" and when he had a go at Father J he didn't swear or anything just used words that would affect a priest "I think you're an overeducated 27-year-old virgin who likes to |

America and the Progressive MovementProgressivism expanded all throughout American cities which ended in political mechanisms full of monopolies and corrupted leaders. The Progressive Movement was a major phase of liberalism between 1900 and 1920 changed the life of the average Americans by restoring economic opportunities, protecting social welfare, promoting moral improvement, creating economic reforms, and fostering efficiency. The Progressive Movement was most successful in changing political views but wasn't as greatly successful in the social and economic extent even though they improved the average lifestyle. The principles of the Progressive Movement which improved the life of an average American, were to limit the power of big businesses, protect labor and by reforming the banking system. It all started with Theodore Roosevelt and his Square Deal that was based off various progressive reforms. Which lead to the Clayton Antitrust Act of 1914 which sought to strengthen the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890, prohibiting corporations from taking possession of another to avoid creating monopolies.
