The Progressive Revelation of Biblical Covenants

The Bible presents us with a Christian worldview, complete with a guideline that will help us to understand the nature of humanity and the Character of GOD. Throughout the Bible, covenants are made between GOD and man that help to equip us with an adequate knowledge of salvation history. Each covenant presents a major piece to the puzzle that a proper Christian worldview would be incomplete without. We will explore the theological significance of each covenant to understand the role that it plays in salvation history and how that comes into play in the Christian worldview. The Noahic Covenant The Noahic Covenant is the very first covenant that is mentioned in the Old Testament. It serves as the foundation for the rest of the covenants that are made throughout the remainder of the Biblical narrative. After GOD had destroyed the world with a flood, He promised Noah that He would never destroy the world through a flood again. GOD provided us with a rainbow to serve as a reminder that He

Concussions and the Changing Face of Sports

Just recently on March 16, 2015, Chris Borland, a 24 year old Linebacker in the National Football League, retired after just one season due to concerns about the long term effects of repetitive head trauma. Borland believes that it isn't worth the risk because of the health problems that can occur. The thing is, he may be making a good choice; there have been more than 70 ex-players that have been diagnosed with progressive neurological disease after their death. Studies have also shown that brain damage issues like depression and memory loss have been connected to repetitive head trauma occurrences (Farinau – Wada). With this recent news, it could bring more attention to concussions and their effects on people's health. A concussion is a brain injury that is caused by getting hit in the head or a violent shaking or the head and body. That means that in some way your brain gets bruised and the nerves in your brain become damaged. According to Medical News Today, even after the

Social Networks, Power and Relationships

Social networks are essential for the participation of all people in communities, especially in immigrant communities. Roger Rouse explains how "migration has always has the potential to challenge established spatial images. It highlights the social nature of space as something created and reproduced through collective human agency" (1996:250). These social spaces hold the potential for social networks. The fact that social networks are dynamic is a given in changing social spaces. Social networks how-ever, cannot be discussed without a gendered lens. When one leaves their entire social network in their home community and begins a new life in a new place, social networks must be re-found and often re-built. Social networks take various forms and serve vari-ous functions for both men and women. Jennifer Hirsch, in her ethnography, A Courtship after Marriage, describes one of the most obvious and useful roles of social networks. She explains that "For migrants to

Factories and the Industrial Revolution

Imagine a time when everything was not made by mass-production factories. The Industrial Revolution was the beginning of the factory system we use today. Many Americans did not desire to have the United States industrialize. However, factory owners and their regions grew very wealthy. The Industrial Revolution brought huge economic changes to the United States such as the bringing together of America a nation, splitting the nation apart into different groups and classes; with an overall effect of unity. The Industrial Revolution brought America together as a nation. Products could be manufactured in greater quantities, in less time. Even unskilled workers could efficiently manufacture products with the new technology. This was especially important since the majority of workers were children. Also, America became much more independent. With an abundant amount of products, the United S

The Use of Contrast in The Shawshank Redemption

Contrast was used by Frank Darabont in "The Shawshank Redemption" to convey the main ideas of hope and freedom. He contrasts the cruel environment of the prison to the prison library, the rooftop scene and the symbol of birds to communicate and emphasise the importance of this idea. The introduction of Shawshank prison shows the harsh mental and physical treatment of the prisoners. When Andy Dufrane first enters the prison, the character known only as 'Fat Ass' weeps uncontrollably, before Captain Hadley bashes him to death during a cruel act showing no compassion. The camera in this shot which shot? Yu have mentioned several minutes of the film here so you need to be more precise. is angled so as to look up at the guards as they stand over the prisoner's limp body. This technique emphasises the power and control the guards have over the prisoners. How does it do this? We learn that degrading and physically abusing the prisoners is an attempt by the guards to mentally strip each inmate of any confidence and hope they have left from their life on the outside. Darabont effectively contrasts this with the library as it symbolizes hope, education and self esteem.

The Importance of Education

In the essay, 'Achievement of Desire', Richard Rodriguez describes the life of a scholarship boy and how it is very hard to balance an academic life and living the life of being in a working class family. Rodriguez describes himself as a scholarship boy, term from Richard Hoggart, which means he excels through his intellect, always successful and always unconfident (599). He was always on top of his class regardless of his home life, coming from very little schooling parents. Through the struggles of Rodriguez advancing himself and adjusting to the environment at home he starts feeling like he's losing connection with his family when he goes off to college. Education was changing him. Rodriguez had became a student with the influences from Richard Hoggart, he experienced his classroom surroundings, and he moved himself away from the past. Rodriguez became a student when he finally realized, years later, that h

Orsino's Attitude Towards Love

Twelfth Night contains many themes including love which features frequently in the opening scene of the play. Many of Shakespeare's play's follow the same pattern such as "a comedy of errors" which also hold the same layout. Twelfth Night was made by Shakespeare taking events from GL'Igannati in which a ship wreck also occurs. He also takes another part of his story from Barnaby Riche's Apolonius and Silla, in which someone falls in love with the duke. Twelfth Night follows many other of the traditions set in Shakespeare's comedies, such as the theme of love which is usually prevalent in every Shakespeare comedy as can be seen with Orsino announcing his love for Olivia. In the opening of the play Orsino say's "if music be the food of love play on" he is here saying that he wants so much of love until he becomes filled with it. Orsino then goes on to say "when mine eyes did see Olivia first, methought she purged the air of pestilence". Orsino proclaiming

My Favorite Place to Be

My favorite place to be is in my apartment. I cherish it like it is the last diamond in the world, even though it is so simple. I have been living in my chambers for five years now. Even though my egg shell colored pad is undersized like the space in a shoe box, it still accommodates my daughter and me. My suite is warm and inviting, completely relaxing, and totally safe. As I take my first step into my chambers, I am intoxicated by the fresh scent of ocean breeze air fresher. I saunter into pad, I flop down on an enormous plush ebony sofa, and look up at the golden pearl ceiling fan, and feel the cool breeze from it. Across the room, there is a black T.V. stand with a rather small television. Behind it stands a palm tree with leaves that barely hanging over the T.V. In the middle of the floor, there is a ch

The Psychology of Fashion

Throughout history, fashion has been a great and inspirational aspect in life that many people have been able to relate to. Over the years, we have watched thousands of trends run the down runway and back into the closets. The fashion industry is rapidly changing daily with new trends and recurring ones. The minds of designers is frantically racing to create a new trend and bring back new ones. The fashion industry is influenced by our own personalities and how we want to present ourselves to others. The mind psychologically decides on how we look at ourselves and how we choose clothing to express our feelings and emotions. People have been expressing themselves through fashion since the beginning of time. Fashion, defined by the English-Webster dictionary, is "the dressing in style and creating a style of your own that is as much about keeping an eye on what's coming next as knowing what came before". Fashion approximately began around 500,000 to 100,000 BC. The first his

The Other Side of the Spectrum for Teenage Boys

In discussions of teenage parenthood, one controversial issue has been ignored for far too long and that would be the focus on teenage fathers. The main focus usually has long been revolved around the life of a young lady in her teens, however I'd like to bring to more people's attention that there are young men who are also in their teens with a child or children. Let's have a look at this one guy named John Wand, he was one guy who ended up becoming a father in his teenage years. This young man was able to balance both his education and parenthood. One day he found out that his high school sweetheart was pregnant, he then got married to her during the summer after their senior year in high school, and the two moved together from Boise, Idaho, to Cambridge, Mass where their son was born. But his new wife soon left him to raise their son and handle Harvard on his own (Zauzmer). Wand is one of many young men who have successfully succeeded in both his academic goals and parenthood. The New Deal: Highs and Lows

The New Deal got underway during the first 100 days of the Roosevelt administration and experienced both successes and failures; but those failures and a mounting opposition to New Deal policies and programs would deter the New Deal from moving forward. Out of the lessons learned during the first New Deal, a Second New Deal would hone its effectiveness and move the federal government to center stage. This move would prove to be successful in resolving many of the nation's immediate issues as well as change the way government is viewed by its citizens. Among the high points were the Works Progress Act (WPA), the Social Security Act, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), farming and labor reform. Within a short period, the Second New Deal would leave its mark upon the nation, but be halted with the focus of the nation turning to war. Nevertheless, the lasting effects of the New Deal are still evident in America today. A primary concern coming from New Deal critics was its fail

A Day at the Beach

It is summertime, in the middle of June. The smell of the salty air, cool breeze of the gulf coast is enough to make my heart flutter. As I look out into the beautiful clear blue sky, I see it filled with kites of many colors, shapes, and sizes. I look off in the distance and come upon a working shrimp boat with its net dragging behind capturing the daily catch, with seagulls flying around waiting for an easy meal. Standing there you cannot help but hear the rolling wave's crash at the water's edge. As I walked along the shoreline of the beach looking for colorful sea glass and shark teeth, I observed canopies and tents set up a mile long on the beach. Families were gathered for a fun filled summer day. Children were building sand castles and splashing in the water, people young and old were lying on beach towels basking in the sun, couples were holding hands while walking along the shoreline taking in the beautiful scenery, while ATV's and golf carts were driving by. I came to a stop for a second and closed my eyes just to take in what nature had given us, the beautiful surroundings. It looked like it was a painted picture.

Narrative Essay - Unconditional Love

My mom is always telling me that people will never understand what unconditional love is, until you have your own experiences. That's when you understand why love its unconditional. August 16, 2012 an unforgettable day, the most important day of my life. I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. His name is Kain Alexandre Vargas Torres. His weight was 6 pounds 8 ounces and 20 inches long. That day was very special for me because I couldn't imagine I was going to give birth. I was 10 days before my due date. That day in the morning I was doing too many things. My boyfriend and I were moving to a new house where we were going to start a new life as a family. It was 8 pm and I was making dinner. We sat down and started talking about how happy we were as a family. I felt a pain in my stomach and I was having trouble breathing. I felt air in my back and cramps, it was a horrible feeling. I asked my boyfriend to take me to the hospital to see that everything was okay with the baby. We arrived to the hospital around 10 pm; I had never felt this worried in my whole life. My eyes were full of

Film Notes - Grand Canyon

Lawrence Kasdan's film Grand Canyon metaphorically represents the differences between the low class and the high class. There is insight into the lives of several characters' that allow them to figure out why the characters behave and feel a certain way. Each character's class is determined by the following: clothing, housing, and occupation. In order to distinguish each class, we must look at Paul Fussell's guide titled Class which points out and specifically explains the characteristics within each class. According to the text, research persuaded Fussell that there are nine social classes in total (Fussell 27). Mack, a respectable upper middle class immigration lawyer, lives in a well-off neighborhood and in an extravagant house with both his wife and son. In the beginning of the Grand Canyon movie, Mack meets a mid-to-high proletarian (prole) tow-truck driver whose name is Simon. The friendship between them clicked and they both became closer friends as the movie gradually proceeded

Macbeth - The Tragic Hero

Tragic heroes are characters pitied by the audience, as they undergo suffering through their mistakes. More so, these characters learn from their journeys as they portray a combination of both good and bad qualities, disregarding the idea of being just a villain or a hero. The protagonist from William Shakespeare's Macbeth undergoes a series of disastrous events bringing upon his downfall. His doubtful thoughts, courageous qualities and obsession towards his ambition drives the audience to believe that Macbeth is a tragic hero. As the thought of holding power is overwhelming enough for Macbeth to put himself in doubt, the hesitation towards his selfish actions brings out his moral attributes, pushing him deeper into the feeling of guilt. Macbeth's desires require him to commit horrific acts, but the goodness within barricades him. Although he is labelled as a brave man on the battlefield, he does not have the ability to dishonor the King and see his nation in pain. "My thought

A Closer Look at Social Media

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Myspace are just a few of the countless social media websites that have been playing a major role amongst the teens of our society. Social media can lead one to major problems or even give people a solution to their problems. Social media is mainly used by teenagers as a form of communicating with each other.  The use of the internet helps us communicate more conveniently. Halloween Costumes and Fashion

Halloween 2004 came around when I was in second grade. I was preparing myself for that Sunday night all month long. My mother told me she wanted me to get creative and make the costume myself, so I did just that. Halloween was the one time of year where somebody's fashion and creativity is different than everyone else's. I decided that I wanted to be something every child has been before; a ghost. I chose to be a ghost because I did not have much material to work with and I thought cutting two holes into a sheet would be an easy task. My seven year old self found out that it was not. Of course, I had to cut a third eyehole because the first two were off alignment so I was off to a bad start. Also with my costume I failed to consider the fact that the sheet had nothing else to fasten it to the rest of my body but my head. Therefore, I had to rely on my hair to have enough friction to support it and keep the eye holes in place. That was unfortunate because I was going up and down the st

Conch in Lord of the Flies

In the beginning of the novel, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the boys are all separated at different places around the island. Piggy and Ralph have come together and are wondering where the others are. It is mid-day and the plane they were on was mistaken for a different bad plane and it gets shot down and lands on this island in the middle of nowhere. This is when the separation of the boys takes place. The British boys will act like adults and try to survive on this island until they can be rescued. The plane had already crashed; Piggy and Ralph were looking for the others. While the two boys were looking for the rest of the survivors, they noticed a creamy colored shell in the lagoon. '"Ralph had stopped smiling and was pointing into the lagoon. Something creamy lay among the ferny weeds," A stone." No a shell"(Golding 15). The boys had just walked upon the conch shell and were discussing how Piggy's auntie had a shell and you could break the top off, blow it and the conch would make a loud whistling sound! They then realized they could use the conch to call the others and gather everyone on the island togeth

My Mission Trip Experience

Good morning my name is Pierre La Monica and I would like to share with you some of my experience on the parish mission trip this summer. For one week in July twenty high school students along with six adults from the parish participated in a variety of faith based mission and service opportunities. Some of us spent the week working here in the Archdiocese at the Youth Ministry sponsored "Work Week" along with over a hundred other students from throughout the Archdiocese. A group spent the week at the Nazareth Farm in West Virginia with other students from around the country, facilitating home repair and construction. Lastly a group spent the week with students from other parts of the county at Toppa Joppa, a Glenmary Mission in Tennessee, serving the local migrant population and participating in some construction. Each of these different mission sites was an opportunity to experience our Catholic faith through prayer, community and service in the context of shared experi

Major Causes of World War One

On June 28th 1914, a Bosnian terrorist group known as the Black Hand assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife. This act was the event that essentially sparked the beginning of World War I. However, the assassination was not the one and only reason behind such a massive conflict. There were underlying issues that all together helped push the European nations to battle. With all things considered, the First World War was caused by the struggle for military power, the intense feelings of national pride and the need to build and expand empires. One of the contributing factors that led to the war was each country's need to have a strong military force. All throughout Europe it was believed that the answer to ending the war and regaining peace was by having the best army and newest equipment. Multiple countries often struggled against each other to assert dominance on land and at sea. " Only those powers that have great navies will be listened to with respect when the future competition of the Pacific Trade comes to be solved: and if for that reason only, Germany must have a powerful fleet

The Social Identity Theory

Introduction How important is it for you to feel like you are a part of something strong and or extra ordinary like a national entity, a powerful company, a successful group, a unique team, a successful organization, en emblem, or even a network? What if it turns out to be a falsehood? To some, the concept of social identity is very important. This research paper will provide the key constructs of Social Identity Theory (SIT), the supporters to this theory, and the oppositions to this theory. In turn, the supporters and oppositions will be compared and contrasted. Main Theory Social Identity Theory concerned both the psychological and sociological aspects of group behavior (Tajafel and Turner 1979). Tajafel observed the behaviors of individuals that join groups and activities that share the same opinions as the individuals. When involved where in different social situations, the individual develops emotions generating from the individuals' thoughts and feelings and proceeds on his/he

How to Take Care of Aquarium Fish

Introduction There's always that one thing you knew you had to have whether it was a toy or a pet. I found that special thing when walking through Wal Mart with my mom one day; some small, colorful, moving thing caught my eye. I turned my head, and to my surprise there were two shelves lined with male Beta fish. Right then I knew I had to have one. I caught up with my mom and told her I planned on buying one of them. Within the next few days I returned to Wal Mart, money in hand, with Victoria. We looked at different colors of fish and finally picked one out. We then picked out a small tank, some black pebbles, and some fish food. When setting up the fish tank, it finally dawned on me that I didn't know anything about fish; let alone how to take care of one. There are many things that are included in taking care of an aquarium fish, but I believe there are only three major things required to keep one happy and healthy. One day you might want to buy your very own fish and not know how

Three Perspectives on Pocahontas

The narrative document, "The General History of Virginia" by John Smith, and the drama called "The Indian Princess" by Nelson Barker, including the third film "Pocahontas" all share the same ideal theme of 17th century English settlers coming to the New World. There were many different reasons for the settlers coming to the New world. some decided to travel the distance in hopes of gaining religious freedom. Others came in search for new land to proclaim as theirs to later encounter the Indian tribes that were there before them. And many had came in search for riches to find great treasure and become wealthy. These events let to the beginning of a colony called Jamestown that had been located in Virginia. John Smith led the expedition for King James. While on this adventure, he encountered several Native Americans and Pocahontas, the daughter of the tribe's leader. In the pieces of text, the authors point of views all have a very strong similarity to Smiths story but show many differences as well. Overall, the authors conceived ideas to the relationship betw

John Steinbeck - Of Mice and Men

John Steinbeck is one of America's most noteworthy writers during the 1900s (John Steinbeck 19). "Steinbeck is remembered for both his forceful writing style and his compassion for the disadvantaged (John Steinbeck 19)." In Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, a novel that constantly achieved tremendous success, two migrant farmhands wish to live out on the farms of California's Salinas Valley, a setting that Steinbeck uses a lot in his work (John Steinbeck 19). John Steinbeck is best known for his argumentative Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Grapes of Wrath (1939) (John Steinbeck 19). "When he was honored in 1962 with the Nobel Prize in literature, the awards committee cited Steinbeck's 'sympathetic humor and sociological perception' and his 'instinct for what is genuinely American, be it good or bad' (John Steinbeck 19-20)." In John Steinbeck's fiction, he acknowledged both sympathy and anger toward American society (John Steinbeck 19-20). "An active o

Apprenticeships as an Alternative to College

Recently in the United States employers have started to require a degree for most jobs and will not necessarily accept alternative forms of higher education. For example my husband learned how to work with computers while in the Army and was successful at it for the eight years that he was in the Army without ever getting a college degree. When he was discharged from the military, he learned very quickly that it did not matter what his accomplishments in the Army were and that the only thing that mattered was having a college degree. On multiple occasions, he has been told by potential employers "we want to hire you, you are perfect for the job, but we cannot hire you since you do not have a degree. We do not care what type of degree you get as long as it's a degree." What could possibly be wrong with employees' skills counting towards their job qualification? Not every career can or should accept alternative training such as medical doctors, lawyers, and architects; however
