Godot's Role in Waiting for GodotThe play, "Waiting for Godot," by Samuel Beckett follows two men seeking to find the purpose of their existence. Throughout the entire play, both men appear to be waiting for a person called Godot who is apparently able to relieve them of their current circumstances. In a sense, Godot represents hope for the two men and it is this hope of meeting Godot that drives the man to remain where they are. Nevertheless, Godot never appears in the play and thus all the waiting seems to be for naught. The play itself starts off without any introduction or elaborating of details. It continues without anything overtly significant happening and without a build-up to a climatic ending - it ends where it started. All in all, one cannot be faulted into making the assumption that the whole point of the play is that there is simply no point to it at all. And therein lies the caveat of the role that Godot plays. This essay will thus attempt to highlight how, through his nuanced absence, Godot ironically g |

A Personal Response to the Poetry of W.B. YeatsOf all the poets on my Leaving Cert course, WB Yeats is easily my favourite. Although I am at ease in engaging with Yeats themes it is also his unique craft that has an impact on me. Yeats is a poet who uses powerful metaphors and images that have a very memorable quality that, in my view, makes Yeats the most quotable of poets. Finally, the one thing I love about Yeats' poetry is its dynamic quality. Yeats sets up dynamic contrasts in every one of his poems which for me makes his poetry interesting and thought – provoking. I found these traits particularly evident in "September 1913", "Eater 1916", "Lake Isle Of Innisfree", "An Irish airman foresees his death" "The Wild Swans at Coole" and "Swift's Epitaph". Yeats cared passionately about his country, and regularly reflected on the state of the nation in his verse. September 1013 is a public poem, political ballad in which Yeats Expresses his disillusionment with the |

Rashad by John Edgar WidemanRashad is a short story that deals with struggles of a mother-law using a gift that was given by her son in law while in Vietnam that reminds her of sad moments over the years. The banner seems to have been placed in a dark corner of her living room, which is out of view, but in sight at the same time as a sad reminder. In the beginning of the short story she is taking the banner down which cause her to reminisce. She states " How long had the banner been hanging in the corner. How long had she been in this house on Finance Street? How long had the Homewood streets been filling with snow in the winter and leaves in the fall and the cries of her children playing in the sunshine? How long since she'd driven in the nail and slipped the gold tasseled cord over so the banner hung straight?"(145-146) I see this banner hanging in the dark corner of her dilapidated house as a way for her brushing the bad reminders away but still holding on to painful mem |

Africa and European ImperialismEuropean imperialism in Africa during the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries has had a large impact on both the colonizer and the colony. The Europeans divided Africa into vast colonial empires that contributed to the imperialistic views of the colonizer and colony. Due to imperialism in Africa, there have been many positive and negative outcomes for the foreigners and Natives of Africa. The Colonizers have greatly benefited by acquiring more land/territories, spreading their religion to the African population, taking possession of valuable mineral resources, and attaining great wealth from Africa. The colony on the other hand is not as pleased with the outcome of imperialism on their native land. They believe that imperialism has stripped them of their responsibilities, religion, land, and fundamental human rights. Both the colonizer and the colony have very dissimilar viewpoints regarding the outcome of imperialism in Africa. As imperialism expanded throughout Africa, the positi |

The Godfather - An Offer He Couldn't Refuse..."The Godfather" is an iconic film that was released in 1972. Directed and co-written by Francis Ford Coppola, this epic work of art won three Academy Awards. It was also a launching pad to stardom for several actors, most notably Al Pacino. This formal analysis will discuss in detail the picture's popular baptism scene; explain the editing technique, symbolism and various other film elements present but frequently overlooked. An understanding of the common terms and methods used in filmmaking will enable the recreational moviegoer to enhance their experience tenfold. Parallel editing is the cinematic act of cutting between actions taking place in multiple locations so as to imply they are actually occurring at the same time. Coppola uses this throughout his Godfather trilogy and the baptism scene is a perfect example. A montage in film is a type of parallel editing where a series of scenes are joined together to signify the passage of time. As the child is being baptized, w |

The High Cost of Attending CollegeIn the United States of America, there is a dream that most people will forever chase. This dream is called the American Dream. It can be explained as obtaining financial success, power, fame, and 40 acres and a mule. However, the road to this dream is very narrow. Most who achieve this dream are entertainment stars, sports players' entrepreneurs, and government officials just to name a few. However, for the common man, the road to this dream requires that they obtain a college degree. College is a place of knowledge, culture, diversity, and a place where one might meet life-long friends and possibly their significant other. However, college is extremely expensive. Most students leave college with enormous amounts of debt, graduate working a part time job paying minimum wage, and face other financial crisis. Conversely, there are a select few of groups who advocate college and the effectiveness it provides. It is true that in today's time, that the majority of jobs require a col |

Agamemnon in the IliadIn The Iliad, Agamemnon, as an official of the highest rank, showed his incompetence frequently. Out of selfishness, he took Achilles' prize, Briseis. His behavior stimulated Achilles' anger as well as god's intention to bring disaster to his army. During battles, he was recognized as timid. Even the troops under his command knew that. Numerous facts prove that, before Achilles joined the battle against Hector, Agamemnon's personality defects were the cause of several failures of Achaians. Firstly, Agamemnon was arrogant. He was arrogant for two reasons. He was disrespectful to an elders, and he was very confident that he was loved by the god. For example, at the beginning of the story, Agamemnon said to the old man Chryses, priest of Apollo, "Never let me find you again, old sir, near our hollow ships, neither lingering now nor coming again hereafter, for fear your staff and the god's ribbons help you no longer" (Richmond Lattimore, The Iliad, 1.26-28). With no pity, he turned the old father down and threatened him. His disrespectfulness attracted Apollo's arrows. However, |

Coral Reef BleachingCoral reef bleaching is the loss of intracellular endosymbionts through either expulsion or loss of algal pigmentation. Zooxanthella is what gives coral reefs their apparent color. When bleaching takes place, the zooxanthellae is expelled by the reef, which makes the reef look white, like it has been bleached. Bleaching occurs when the coral reef feels as if it "under stress", the most common "stress" a coral can face is the rising of the water temperature although, there are a number of biotic and abiotic factors which can inflict "stress" upon the corals. Stress can occur when the oceans temperature rises even just one degree higher than the average. Coral bleaching is a serious threat to marine life that results in damage to the coral reefs. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), has conducted many different types of research to investigate the causes, preventions, damages, and impact that coral |

Lies and Betrayal in Death of a SalesmanIn the play Death of a Salesman, infidelity plays an important role in the theme of the play. The definition of infidelity in the play signifies a disloyal act, betrayal and all the lies that were told. We see in the play how this incident was the starting change of the relationship between Biff and Willy. It separates the good times from the bad times. Without infidelity being a major theme, we wouldn't know the reasoning behind the anger and lies that are always told in the play. It was always a mystery to the rest of the characters why Biff and Willy were so angry at each other because they once got along so well. The discovery of the father's infidelity differentiates the before and after of the disloyal act. The relationship between Willy and Biff at one point was wonderful before Biff discovered his dad's infidelity. Biff loved his dad and looked up to him. Biff demonstrated his love to his dad when he told him, "This Saturday, Pop, this Saturday----just for you, I'm going to break through for a touchdown" (Miller 1680). Willy supported his son's passion for football even though he knew th |

Union Strategic Military PlanningThe Civil War has a history of strong tensions between two sides and many disputes about life and politics of Americans residing on new land. The people living in the Northern and Southern states have been trying to resolve these issues, unfortunately the issues brought on war. The United States Civil War lasted from 1861 to 1865 and led to over 625,000 casualties.1 The war was definitely the central event in American history and one of the most memorable one. Both the Union and Confederates had their methods of fighting this war, only one side wins. Knowing the winning side's strategy is important and therefore will be discussed in great detail. The war has an interesting beginning and causes, which have either short or long lasting effects. Therefore, a little background on the break out of Civil War would not hurt. To begin, the economies of the North and the South were very different. The North relied mostly upon labor of immigrants in order to work in the large industrial sector |

Business Analysis - American WellAmerican Well is an online care company that allows patients to be consulted by their physicians online without the long waiting hours in the hospital or scheduling months in advance. The idea arose when the co-founders Ido and Roy saw potential in internet and communications industry and decided to act upon it. Movie Overview - The SoloistIn the movie "The Soloist", directed by Joe Wright, it is based on a true story of Nathaniel Ayers, a homeless Schizophrenic musician, and Steve Lopez, a Los Angeles Times columnist determined to write Nathaniel's story. The two became the most unlikely of friends and end up helping each other in ways they never would have guessed. In the movie, a few health issues stood out like some drug addiction, Steve's injury after falling off his bike, and the most focused point in the movie, Nathaniel mental illness Schizophrenia. Drug addiction is a very common sort of health issue that occurs in the United States. Hundreds and thousands of people get lost in the feeling of it and never really understand the cost of taking it. Meth for example is one that is very addictive and can ruin a person's life. The sacrifices made for this drug far outweigh the benefits. Of course it creates heightened awareness, gives a great weightless/mellow feeling, and an increase in strength but that only lasts for a short amount of time. That is not to mention the permanent n |

Fake It Until You Make It"Fake it until you make it," that was originally the topic of my research paper. The power behind faking something and eventually having that become your new norm! I know first hand that this idea works and that you can literally train your brain into thinking and acting in a completely new, learned way. I am where I am today because I have became very skilled at "faking it" and although I am thankful to my brain for working with me and doing what I desperately wanted and needed it to do, my paper is not about the amazing power behind "faking it." Instead, I changed my topic to be about my brain's coping abilities and how I have handled child abuse and the effects I have noticed later in life. I started to research the whole concept behind "faking" the way you act and or feel and eventually over time you'll come to realize that you no longer are "faking" and instead you became it. I had composed my power point and included the strengt |

America and Illegal ImmigrantsAmerica is a land of opportunities. People all over the world want to come here to change their destiny. However, the economy of America is not in a good condition and people who are living here facing many problems. Due to its internal bad economic conditions, government has stricken the rule to come to America. As a result, people are trying many illegal ways to come here. Illegal immigrants are causing so many problems for this country and we have to find solution for both of this country and also for illegal immigrants so that they can live here legally. The problem with illegal immigrants is not that they are here using our resources. The problem is that they are using our resources without contributing anything. America as a country was completely built on immigrants. There is nothing wrong with the idea of immigration. The problem comes when people do it illegally. They use our hospitals and our schools without paying taxes or getting health insurance. Illegal immigrants are willing to work for lower wages and reduced benefits. In this sense they create competition for the American citizen-w |

Britain and the First Industrial RevolutionAn Industrial Revolution is viewed as a complex set of radical changes, vastly in areas of socioeconomic fields. This is exactly what occurred in Britain and it resulted in the most insightful and extensive change within the history of humanity. In fact this event still plays a significant role in our lives today. The transformation that occurred transformed the way we live our lives in all aspects such as what wear and eat how we live and work and our social interaction as some main examples. From living a basic life, where many goods and products were limited was quickly accelerated to a more complex and structured society with an abundance of goods available at our doorsteps. This essay validates how so many new establishments and foundations created in one nation played such a crucial part in world history reaching a truly global level. It also explores the many conflicting views historians have about the Industrial Revolution. In order to understand the reasons how and why the |

Critical Appreciation of V by Tony HarrisonTony Harrison's poem "V" is a lament for the polarisation that he sees in society. There are clear links to Thomas Gray's poem "Elegy Written in a Country Church Yard." These links include the quatrain AB rhyme scheme and the poetic scale which is mirrored in "V." These poems are both about the poorer classes, but aimed at the upper ones, aristocracy in Gray's case, "Let not ambition mock their useful toil.Nor Grandeur." There is also the link of sadness within the poems, as Harrison is standing in the graveyard where his parents are buried and Gray talks about how the potential of poor people is blighted by the aristocracy. The title itself is about this, as "V" is about the many dichotomies of life, as well as being a poem about Harrison himself. Growing through the social classes from a working class boy to a successful poet, despite this, he still wishes to remain in the same social circle as his parents. Despite the links there are also dif |

Video Game Summary - Grand Theft AutoGrand Theft Auto v ft Auto (GTA) IV released on April 29, 2008 by the company Rockstar. rockstar has distinguished itself yet again from its rivals like Blizzard entertainment and other known companies, with Grand Therepects with the underworld.. the game skyrockets with action involving blowing up cops' cars, run over innocent civilians, relaxing at clubs, to assist drug dealers and lowlifes. Dignity in Of Mice and MenEveryone wants to live with dignity, but rarely does that equate to being dignified. One is usually preoccupied with receiving and wanting to be shown dignity that one forgets to treat others in the same manner. In John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, the characters whom are considered the weakest, seek to shatter those who are weaker than they. Candy fears that, because of his age, he will eventually be found no longer useful, but when it comes to putting his own dog out of its misery, Candy cannot do the deed himself. Crooks admits his vulnerabilities to Lennie, then Crooks immediately aims his sights on Lennie's own weakness, creating a story where George abandons Lennie. Curley's wife constantly seeks dignity from all the men on the ranch, yet she feels most powerful when threatening Crooks with a lynching. In these three characters one can see that Steinbeck is stating a basic tenet of the human condition; being undignified does not only originate from the strong preying on |

Who Will Speak for the Homeless?Today we are living in a world where the gap between the rich and the poor turned into a bottomless gulf, where the phrases such as the Third World countries and the First World countries have become customary as if they named just regular flow of things and where the clinking of money is considered the sweetest music. The indifference to the fate of others as well the acceptability of using the others in order to profit has become a norm for the part of the world that boasts about the highest levels of civilization and unseen technological progress. But are we to continue the unjust order in the world? Are we to remain selfish? Are we to be blind to the imminent effects of existed inequality and injustice? Or do we still have enough common sense to understand the destructive nature of limitless and abusive exploitation and raise our voices against it? Clearly, we cannot allow the distortion of our souls and degradation of human moral values. Thus we need to restructure the world where |

Snowboarding - Past and PresentSnowboarding has been around for 51 years. In 1964 a young surfer named Sherman Poppen was dreaming about surfing the Rockies. As a result, he built a surfboard for the snow. His first prototype was a long plastic plank; it was made from two kids' skis bolted together with a rope tied to the front to make it easier to steer. It was a present for his daughter Wendy which soon was a winner in the neighborhood. One year later, in 1965, his idea was put into production and called the "snurfer" which is a combination of two words: snow and surfer. 20 years after that in 1985 there had been many changes, but Burton finally came out with a snowboard with no rope, but two bindings for control with only your legs. it was created with a foam core and a fiberglass exterior. Nine years later in 1994 they created a twin tip snowboard for snowboarding in each direction. This lead to people riding "goofy", which |

Plastic Bags - A Serious Environmental ThreatUse of plastic bags becomes a part of our daily life. They are convenient and easy to use. Plastics bags are popular for the consumer and retailer because they are cheap, strong, and we seem to unable to do anything without them. Plastic bags aren't just at the grocery store; they are everywhere, from landfills, oceans, lakes, seas, and trees. Plastic bags are non-biodegradable, and most of them don't get recycled, so wherever people leave them, they will stay forever. We are destroying our planet, and we don't realize the effect of the plastic bags. Plastic bags are very important for humanity and have been for the last 50 years. It allowed as achieving great things but also has a negative impact to our environment and the extensive use of them will cause pollution to the environment and harm to the ecosystem. Comparing and Contrasting Science with ChristianityThe task I have before me although challenging is possible. I am going to try and explain both science and Christianity. I will start with an over view of both then go on to how they are alike and are different. Science too I is the more concrete of the two with facts and math and numbers involved yet Christianity is based on something that even for the smartest scientist is hard to disprove faith. Both have their similarities and differences but you will find they are both worlds apart and go against each other so much that a ridiculous amount of people on both sides have been imprisoned because of them people have died by the thousands to protect on cause or the other. Science is the staple for most of humanity as we know from everything to how much food we have to building towers that actually scrape the sky science is in it all. Now there are some questions that science has not answered but to me the reason why science is the front runner for the most accurate history of our universe is that science is ever changing.
