Exploration of MortalityIn the essay "Once More to the Lake" E. B. White paints a picture of the inevitability of death. The essay is a reflection of White's visits to the lake year after year and his realization of the insignificant part he plays within this lifetime. Death is something that is universal to all living beings of the world. It is important to understand the natural progression of our life, by allowing one's self to accept this reality, we are liberated. Through this liberation, we can make the most of our moments and memories. Watching his own son at the lake White is reminded of the times he was his own son's age, doing the same things. Here we begin to understand the cycle of life repeating itself as it once did for White's father. White re |

Nationalism in the 19th CenturyNationalism in the 19th century was very similar to patriotism. Nationalism is when people are loyal to and proud of their country and have the belief that their country or independant nation is superior to others. In the 19th century nationalism was extremely prevenant, though it would be replaced by patriotism. Though many benefited from Nationalism, it caused unnecessary destruction in the 18th and 19th centuries in Europe. It caused uprisings that lead to numerous revolts, disturbing the order, causing needless death and eventually leading to world war one. Firstly, nationalism was used as a political tool for leaders to gain power. This can especially be seen in the German Unification of 1871. The unification took place on January 18 and was when the Princes of the German states made Wilhelm of Prussia as Emperor Wilhelm of the German Empire. From positions of established power, this new generation of leaders molded nationalism to fit harsh political realities. They focused their eyes on practical policies not ideals." |

The Doomed League of NationsThe league of nations was an idea of Woodrow Wilson, the president of America from 1914 to 1921. The league was established in 1920. It was set in Switzerland because it was a neutral country. The main 2 countries of the league were Britain and France. Some people say that the league of nations was going to fail from the very start and some people say that the league of nations was a good idea but some things affected it to fail. The league was said to be doomed from the start for several reasons. One of the reasons is that the league did not have a lot of experience. An organisation such as the league was done for the first time and people did not have any experience of working all together to bring peace to the world. The members of the league did not what to do and what to start with, they may be diplomats and professionals, but they still did not know what to do and what to start with. Another reason that proves that the league was a bad idea is that America was not a member of t |

Economics of Australia and ChinaAustralian economy and Asian economies play a very similar role in solving the economic problem. The problem of scarcity arises because of the volume and efficiency of resources available for production is unlimited. These are factors that dominate our lives, we have unlimited wants and limited resources. "What to produce?", "how much to produce?", "how to produce?", and "to whom to distribute?" are the main functions of an economic system. The economic system is an organised way in which a country distributes its resources and goods and services into the community. There are four main types of economic systems: centrally planned economies, mixed economy, traditional economy and capitalist economy. The very first problem of an economic system is "what to produce". Consumer preference or supply and demand can influence what goods and services are to be produced. The next problem is "how much to produce", The main issue is the |

American Conflicts of WWIIShe did not want war at least; she had no intention of engaging in one. Then, she was compelled. Threats came and she had to defend her territory, her people, and her status. The compulsion was enough to awaken her from her sleep. She took her stand in readiness for an attack. She attacked and finally won; world war (ii). It is true that the American involvement in the war left an impact on her economy, civil rights, education, and her status on a global scale. To understand how the impact came about, we have to know how she engaged in the war, her enemies and allies. The 20th century marked the bloodiest century not only in the American history but globally. It was the century when America was facing civil unrest and international conflicts. In 1933, British were facing invasion from the Germans led by Hitler. Though America knew, her allies were in conflicts, led by President Franklin. D. Roosevelt, America did not want to participate in the war. However, then it reached a point Pre |

Problems in Real Estate ValuationIt was once said by a wise man that you cannot judge a book by its cover. That is true for my real estate property. Prior to performing Pro-forma for the City Center, I believed it would be a quick turnover with this property. I thought I could just acquire a construction certificate to update the first floor with multiple conference halls, a larger retail space, and other services that could significantly increase the company revenues. However, after analyzing the operating expenses associated with the additional services, I realized that the most valuable use of this building is as office space. With office space, City Center is expected to grow at 11 percent annually and with operating yearly growth of 2.3 percent. As showed on the excel below, City center lead tenant the Investment Company Institute alone pays over U.S $300,000 per month, in addition to the rest of the tenants that fully occupy the other eight floors. City Center has been profitable over the past decade with an average growth rate of 10 percent. In this p |

The Cruelty of Animal ExperimentationAnimal experimentation is a waste of time, money and resources. Each year, millions of animals are tortured, mutilated, and infected with painful diseases in research laboratories until they die. This research method has been commonly used since the nineteenth century (Animal Testing Timeline), but over time this practice has become less popular in America, partially due to the fact that most of the results from animal testing are not successful in humans. Speakingofresearch.com reported that more than 1,000,000 animals were used for testing in 2010, compared to 2014 where only a little bit over 800,000 animals were utilized (US Statistics). Some people may argue that animal experimentation is a good research method because there are animals that share up to 99% of our DNA, and it also helps, to ensure the safety of drugs, but the truth is that the majority of animal experiments are unreliable, unnecessary and expensive, are atrociously cruel to animals and there are new and effective |

World War II and the Atlantic WallDuring the reign of Nazi Germany between the years of 1942 and 1944 a widespread system of coastal defense and fortifications known as the Atlantic Wall was built beside the shoreline of Scandinavia as well as central Europe as a form of protection against a foreseen attack from the Allies on Nazi-controlled Europe from Britain during the period of the second World War. The creation of the wall began on March 23rd 1942 when Nazi leader Adolf Hitler delivered something known as Führer Directive No. 40. This called for the formation of the "Atlantic Wall". Hilter arranged submarine and naval bases to be greatly protected. Defenses had continued to remain focused nearby ports until sometime in late 1943. This was when resistances were significantly increased in other certain areas. Nazi propaganda had also made the claim the Atlantic Wall had stretched from near the Spanish border to around the cape of Norway. The primary engineering group which had designed and constructed a majo |

Improving My MemoryThere are a few aspects of my memory that I need to improve. Considering the large amounts of information I need to study in short periods, I absolutely want to improve my performance on exams. Although I have been good at taking tests in the past, I had a longer period to prepare myself. Chunking is actually not new to me. It is something I've done throughout the years to help me remember things. I just never knew the name for what I was doing. However, I am not sure if I have been doing it in a very effective way, especially in the last few years. In addition to improving my performance on exams, I also want to drastically reduce my absent minded actions. At least 2 to 3 times a week I misplace my cell phone, driver's license, and keys. As soon as this happens, I go into panic mode, start to freak out, and tell myself that the worst has happened to whatever I am looking for. My oldest daughter often tells me that I just need to slow down a little bit and this will not happen as much. Once I have found what I am looking for she gives me a look as if I have lost my mind and says, "I knew it." |

Terrorism and the Paris Attack of 2015Terrorism is a historical as well as a presently growing issue, and it has been increasing in the past years. A terrorist has many different tactics that they can use such as, bombing, hijacking, arson, assault, kidnapping and hostage taking (White, 2014, p.110) in which their goal is to achieve a current purpose towards their target. The fear and terror it brings to individual's safety and security in the city when terrorist groups attack innocent lives. There have been multiple attacks, many as of tragedies, such as the attack on New York City. The most recent major attack was in Paris on November 13, 2015, where restaurants, stadiums, and a concert were attacked, and many lost their lives or were injured with minor or serious conditions. However, it was stated by ISIL that they were creating the attacks in Paris, which left a big impact on the people of Paris and people around the world. Terrorism sees an increasing trend, where terrorist attacks are increasing in number and size. I |

Child Soldiers in Mexico and Sierra LeonePolitical unrest and instability in many third world countries not only impact the everyday lives of adults. Sadly, it has an extreme effect on innocent children. Two examples of this horrific occurrence are evidenced in the drug cartel wars of Mexico and the civil unrest in Sierra Leone. Factors that led these children to become child soldiers include lack of education, social conflicts, and socioeconomic status. Previous to their recruitment, the children in both of the noted countries had minimal opportunities to attend school and get an education. While both countries have education laws that require obligatory school attendance, the enforcement of the law was very lenient. In Sierra Leone, because of the civil war destruction, many schools were ruined and inoperable. Teachers were sc |

Understanding the Transgender CommunityIn recent years, exposure to the transgender community in recent years can be credited to such influential individuals as Caitlin Jenner, Laverne Cox, and Janet Mock, but there is still so much to the growing community that the general public is unaware of. It is much more common to personally know someone who identifies as gay than to know someone who identifies as transgender. In fact, only sixteen percent of adults in the United States personally know someone who is transgender, while ninety percent of Americans know someone who identifies as gay1. Since information about the transgender community is not as commonly known, it is imperative to make sure that there is a way for information to reach a wide array of individuals. With the increased need for change in governmental legislation, general awareness to reduce violence and stigma against the community, and to inform the public on the struggles connected to accessing health care, the transgender community oftentimes uses written |

Health and Religious Practices of the JapaneseJapanese religious beliefs are predominantly Buddhism, Shintoism, and Confucianism and health care for the Japanese has traditionally been defined according to these beliefs. Today, the Japanese have assimilated both Eastern and Western medical belief systems, revealing a very diverse culture with regard to health care workers and practices. This paper will illustrate how various religious beliefs influence Japanese health care. Religious Beliefs Shintoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism are the predominant religions of the Japanese. However, according to Purnell (2013), "Most Japanese do not identify themselves solely with one religion; even a baptized Christian might have a Shinto wedding and a Buddhist funeral" (p. 332). All Japanese are born into Shinto and the vast majority practice it. Shinto is based on the belief that gods are represented in our natural landscape and emphasizes the divineness of nature. For Shintoists, all living things are considered divine and are wort |

A High School MemoryAs a teenager, my grandmother always told me, "The people with whom I surrounded myself can have a big influence on me." She was inspired by the scripture that said, "Bad friend corrupt good character." I always kept that advice in the back of my mind and putting it in practice was very challenging, specially, when you are a teenager. Teenagers tend to mature more than others. Also, they have problems to connect with their parents because it is hard for them to follow directions or advices. I remembered when I use to say, "My grandmother doesn't understand my needs, meanwhile I wanted to be free like a bird." I was raised by my grandparents, who enlightened my paths as a teenager and I am so grateful to have them in my life. Things began to change when I met this girl named Jewel. My junior year started here at Saint Joseph High School, where I met Jewel. We were almost the same age. In fact she was four months older than me and during the courses of the |

Short Story - The Man Who Dwells Among GhostsI had heard of him many times from my friends. They call him by the name "Deveda" which means "ghost" in their native language and this urged me to meet this guy. I met him for the first time in one of my friend house party. About 22 with Dark eyes, long wavy black hair and dark complexioned, he was standing with a cigarette and a glass of drink in his hand. He was popular among his friends, known for his "I don't care attitude" and his daring views towards supernatural "stuffs", at least that's what he referred them whenever he was asked about his thoughts on paranormal activities " Ohh those stuffs never mind". We were introduced and I already started to like his personality. Rumors were there that his apartment was haunted. That a couple of years ago a girl hanged herself in the very room he stays and since then paranormal activities were reported by various tenants t until him, although some of his friends who stayed overnight in |

The Yellow Wallpaper - Reader ResponseWomen across the world often consider the grueling process of childbirth to be the hardest thing in life women have to deal with. While this may be true, the aftereffects of pregnancy are, in many ways, more traumatic than the actual process. Postpartum depression is an important psychological obstacle that women across the world have to conquer after they give birth. In The Yellow Wallpaper, Charlotte Perkins Gilman uses her personal battle with postpartum depression to create a powerful story shining a light on the trials women in the nineteenth century had to face while living in this misogynistic society. The unequal relationship between the narrator and her husband, John, symbolizes the looming gender inequity in society during this period. Gilman makes it clear that much of |

Advertisements - The Real MessageOn a daily bases we see advertisements of all kinds and forms whether it's a build board, a commercial, or a logo on a t-shirt. However advertisers are trying to grab our attention through a different method by using sexuality for advertising products. Since advertisers know that sex would grab the attention of most people they would advertise products such as food and clothing to different genders, race, and sexualities; however doing so can lead to people having self-esteem problems as well as depression and eating disorders. Advertisements that sexually advertise a product such as clothing can lead to people having low self-esteem problems. Low self-esteem issue is most common in teenage girls and in women however younger and older men could also feel this way as well. Jean Kilbourne, from Killing Us Softly, says that "girls are getting the message these days so young that, that they need to be impossibly beautiful" (Kilbourne). Feminism and and the Works of IbsenWomen have been empowered through feminist drama for decades. Theatrical works intended to convey a feminist message have inspired women to rise above oppression enforced by unfair societal gender norms. However, many readers argue over the feminist label as it applies to some playwrights and their works. This is exactly the case for nineteenth century Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. A number of his plays feature strong women protagonists who reject female stereotypes and standards. Many critics are hesitant or entirely against associating these plays with feminism and what it stands for. Though a majority of critics claim that Ibsen's works do not fall into this genre, the dramatic structure and protagonists of A Doll's House and Hedda Gabler prove that these works are feminist in nature. Regardless of whether or not Ibsen considered himself or his plays to be feminist, the response from his audiences demonstrates his overwhelming influence in female empowerment. An inarguably |

Merging Science and Religion"Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is profound source of spirituality. When we recognize our place in immensity of light-years and in the passage of ages, when we grasp the intricacy, beauty, and the subtlety of life, then that soaring feeling, that sense of elation and humility combined, is surely spiritual. So are our emotions in the presence of great art or music or literature, or acts of exemplary selfless courage such as those of Mohandas Gandhi or Martin Luther King, Jr. The notion that science and spirituality are somehow mutually exclusive does a disservice to both." (Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark) Throughout the centuries, there has been a conflict to whether if science and religion can actually work together. If it was possible for science to be without religion, and religion to ever be without science. From the theory of evolution versus creation, which is the division of scientists who believe that the evol |

The Proudest Day of my LifeI've had my share of memorable days; some worth remembering, others hard to forget, and not because I don't want to. The proudest day of my life, however, is a memory I cherish. Prior to this memorable day, I had put things in place to make this possible. I was elected as an interim president for the Abladei Writers And Debaters Club (AWADEC) in my second year of high school, with my best friend for my vice. We did our best to hold the club together; we had little support from our predecessors. We had to go hunt freshers to join the club, teaching them individual histories the club had which we knew little of. Instilling particular aspirations and giving them hopes we knew to be fantasies. We did everything to keep this real: although we(my vice and I) were science students, we sacrificed our classes, our leisures, even our monies to train and prepare them to sustain the club in our absence. Short Story - House on Lake FlatheadEvery time I visit, I always remember the sound of the water, the curious lapping against the stones that construct the foundation. The sound is inescapable, working its way into the banks of your memory, cementing itself before the inevitable departure. The mixture of boat fuel and sunscreen engages your nostrils when looking out over the water. Boats pass frequently, the occasional screaming teenager being pulled on a doughnut with straps, having fun for he first time since their parents dragged them out for "family time". As the boat careens through the water the teenager slides off the back of the donut, a skipping stone being thrown into the abyss. The scowl returns to her face as her dad flips the boat around. That one must have hurt I mutter to myself. Our house on Lake Flathead was built in what seems like the 1820's but probably somewhere closer to 1955.
