Security Protocols and How to Ensure ComplianceLt. Col. Andrew Ryan, 51st Communications Squadron commander said it best, "The work you do is vital and the information we share, along with the systems we use to do it, are critical to the success of our mission. We know this, but our adversaries are even more aware of it." What the colonel is saying is spot on. Security protocols are necessary for the livelihood of the Military. Without security protocols the military would be vulnerable to a multitude of attacks, both physical and cyber. Like most of our policies, these are written in blood. Military personnel have lost their lives by not following security protocols. And we have also lost lives have from such protocols not being in place. As of recently, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) was the target of a malicious cyber-attack which potentially affected every person who applied for government security clearance to include all military personnel. A wide variety of sensitive information was stolen: social security number |

A Gathering Light and The Devil Wears PradaA significant change has occurred in the representation of women in the two texts, A Gathering Light and The Devil Wears Prada. Discuss this statement about the two texts remember to comment on the techniques used to represent women in the texts. As time and context changes, significant developments and changes have occurred in the representation of women, their ambitions and ideas of selflessness and choices. This is evident in the novel, A Gathering Light, by Jennifer Donnelly set in the rural Adirondacks in 1906. It is also present in David Frankel's 2006 film, The Devil Wears Prada set in New York City in the early twenty- first century. While values can change over time, women are still expected to conform to society's views. In the early 1900s men in farming communities valued obedience and women were expected to perform all their household roles without objection. Women living in rural poverty were expected to act selflessly with limited ability to make their choices and think |

3D Printing and StructuresThe use of 3D printing is "no longer a novelty" (" Bridge to the Future," 2015, para. 8). This technology has been evolving from just creating miniature 3D models to now creating much greater structures, such as a "five-story apartment building" ("A bride to the future," 2015, para. 10). 3D printing is becoming a practical reality that will only become more useful as the years pass due to the technological and equipment advancement through futuristic conceptualization. Currently, 3D printing is being used throughout the world to make construction more efficient. Some processes in creating 3D structures will allow this advancement, but there are also pros and cons to its application. The Economist explains common processes in 3D printing, such as selective laser melting, industrial robots building upwards, and the pros of 3D printing, such as the greater flexibility in design and construction time. A common method of 3D printing is called select |

Fictional Ancient Greek Newspaper ArticleThe Great Battle of Thermopylae had just ended, with Xerxes' Persian army taking out the last 300 Spartans. Our outnumbered Athenians, along with the Spartans and other warriors from the different city-state, fought off the Persians for two days. Then the Persians took a back route, sneaking up on the Spartans and annihilating them. One reason for the early success of the Greeks was because they used a method called a phalanx, where they stood together, using their tough shields to fend off Persian arrows, and using their long spears to stab the Persians to death. Leonidas forced the Persians into a narrow mountain pass, giving the advantage to the Greeks given their close-combat fighting style, using swords, spears and shields. After two days and many men killed, Xerxes and his Persian army strategized a counter attack, going around the backside of the mountain range to sneak up on the Greeks. Leonidas, |

Second Language Acquisition"Language is a human system of communication which uses structured vocal sounds and can be embodied in other media such as writing printing and physical signs. Most linguists currently regard the faculty of language as a defining characteristic of being human." According to Graddol we can use language to describe an ability that humans possess. If you know a language, you know a human system of communication. Fromkin remarks that if you know only English your unconscious knowledge of its sound system will influence the way you pronounce a word in any other language you may try to speak. It is very obvious that children do not learn a language by simply memorizing but by imitating their elders. They listen to what is said around them and imitate the speech they hear; an American may hear 'milk' and may attempt to repeat what he heard. Children also produce speech by analogy, by hearing a sentence and using it to form other sentences. Children do not wake up one fine mo |

Dropping Out of CollegeIt is said that education is the basic foundation for future prosperity and also the power of knowledge. The arguments sound to be the truth; people grew up with the belief that no one can be successful in this current world without good qualifications from a college education. Therefore, with the current population growth and demand for college education, the majority has acquired diplomas and degree awards with the belief that with education, employment opportunities are wide open. What they tend to forget is that the ratio of graduates to employments opportunities is quite big, making the majority of the graduates be jobless or secure low paying jobs. Therefore, the beliefs that education is the key to success tend not to be effective as before. Acquiring good entrepreneurial skills and innovation is the foundation for success. To support my argument, it is true that the world richest men are businessmen who didn't even finish college studies; a good example is Bill Gates, a college dropout |

Just Mercy by Bryan StevensonIn the book, "Just Mercy," by Bryan Stevenson, Bryan explains and illustrates how many individuals were incarcerated. He spent much of his lawyer career in prisons working with those on death row. One of the cases he examines is an individual named Walter McMillian and how his case wasn't showing the principles of justice. Walter was convicted of the Ronda Morrison murder. Sheriffs in his town believed that he was guilty due to the accusations Ralph Myers, another citizen in the town, gave toward McMillian. Bryan explained in chapter three, "They hadn't yet done much investigation into McMillian, so they decided to arrest him on pretextual charge while they built their case." (Stevenson: 47) It's clear that the officials just wanted a reason to catch Walter without a factual case against him because they ended up arresting him against sodomy charges when they couldn't put the facts all together. It's said that you're supposed to have probable cause and facts before arresting someone. Therefore, what they arrested Walter for was part of unjust actions. They didn't get Walter's side of the story on what Ralph accused him of. This made many citizens in W |

Visual and Observational MethodsIn this essay, I shall be comparing whether it is possible to use visual methods as opposed to observational, when undertaking research with children and young people. I will be comparing data and opinions of Linda Liebenberg and what challenges you may face in various methods of visual research. I shall first examine what constitute each type of research and then I shall examine how these can be used comparing the methods. I shall then conclude on whether one form is better than the other when undertaking research with children and young people. Visual methods of research are where a researcher collates data which in the main is generated by the participant; this data then goes on to be the basis of the researcher's analysis or, can be used as a base for further research. Helen Lomax (EK313, online, unit 10 activity 7) states that visual methods are often seen as giving voice to children and young people. As this method is more participatory it allows children to explore given situa |

Chipolte Mexican Grill - Business CaseAnalysis Chipotle went from a one unit operation in 1993 to almost sixteen hundred in 2014. It offers a limited menu of high-quality fast food in upscale restaurants. By only offering a limited menu Chipotle has taken on the strategy to keep it simple and do a few things exceptionally well. They do not include menu items such as coffee or desserts, therefore not complicating operations or creating any inefficiencies. By implementing the strategy of keeping it simple with limited items, they can concentrate on the source of each ingredient and use top qualities ingredients. Chipotle also believes their front line is critical, so most restaurants are designed to allow the majority of personnel to be up front and able to interact with customers. The layout of the restaurant also enables customers to see employees preparing food, therefore reinforcing the idea of high-quality fresh ingredients. They offer excellent opportunities for employee advancement and also cross-train employees so |

Sports and the Benefits of DiureticsScience has found, and helped improved the lives of people around the world. In particular, chemicals have played a significant role in many areas, improving human life. I have done my part of research on diuretics, a chemical from the professional sports area. Some people are against the usage of chemicals as they are known to be harmful and damaging because of a reaction involving changes to atoms or molecules. I am for the use of this chemical, diuretics in the professional sports area as it had improved the life of people. Veterans and Post Traumatic Stress DisorderEven though they are soldiers, they are still human. Military personnel who go on deployments overseas to places like Iraq and Afghanistan are at a higher risk for experiencing a traumatic event and also for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, about eight percent of people will have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder at some point and about twenty percent of veterans back from the war in Iraq and Afghanistan are diagnosed with PTSD (http://www.brainhealth.utdallas.edu/index.php/blog/ptsd-and-returning-veterans). Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder can develop after the experience of a traumatic event. Traumatic events manifest when a person is confronted with threatened death, actual death or serious injury. It can also occur just by a person being a witness of a traumatic event. For example, a soldier overseas may see their friends get shot, or they may be the one having to shot to protect themselves. Resolving Workplace ConflictsThe key to managing conflicts is first to recognize that conflicts are inevitable. On the job, there will always be different personalities, tasks, and issues that arise, that may all ultimately lead to conflict. Conflicts can, however, be resolved to a level where everyone is agreeable. To get different individuals to agree is not an easy task and managing conflict does require both experience and knowledge. Organizations that do not manage or deal with conflict can end up with workers feeling that their opinions are not important or appreciated. Group discussion and collaboration can serve to address conflicts, especially when employees become actively involved in the process, and the team is encouraged to independently implement problem-solving strategies. Pace (2006) explains that when workers get together and combine their talents as a team, they then can get a lot done. He elaborates that the success of a team depends on its members being able to work together (Pace, 2006). |

Architecture - Knowledge and TechniquesAvanti Architects has been winning several awards across different fields such as healthcare, sustainable design and conservation design. They recently won the National History museum project: repairing and restoring of Grade 1 listed Waterhouse Building Façade. This required a lot of technical and academical knowledge for the conservation. So, I ask, how does this architectural practice keep achieving such a broad range of projects, that require such specialised knowledge and skill? The answer can be seen within their specific inter-relationship of individuals, a strong understanding of colleagues' capability to achieve their ethos and careful business management to expand the practice abroad with relatively guaranteed income. Avanti is an award winning design practice providing architectural design, sustainable design, masterplanning, interior design and landscape design services. The company was established in 1981 with 5 members. Today Avanti has grown to a size of 65 members wi |

For instance, flooding, plastic debris in the ocean beaches and the acidity of ocean waters. Many of the environmental issues are caused by human activity but the environment impact cannot be ignored. This paper will review various articles environmental issues and their impact on the ecosystem. Ocean Acidification, Population Demography and Adaptation Potential The article from the science daily magazine addresses the impact of ocean acidification on the population dynamics of the marine species. The investigation was done on the gastropod species, Hexaplex trunculus, and how it responded to ocean acidification over time. Due to the changes in acidity levels in the ocean, there have been changes in the male and female species of the gastropod species. Smoking Bans and the Risk of DiseaseNowadays, smoking is believed as one of the dangerous phenomenon in the world. Even though, smokers have been provided with the knowledge of how unhealthy smoking can be, they still choose to smoke. It is not for the government or any third party to dictate whether or not a perbson should be allowed to smoke. Although it can be considered as personal choice and every human being have their own right to choose what the best for them But, we still have to be tolerate towards other people's health as smoking not only affect negatively to the smokers, also to the people in their surroundings . The smoke spread freely through the air, and the negative effects of this smoke affects all living things. Therefore smoking should be banned at open premises to reduce disease risk. First and foremost, smoking ban at open premises will protect non-smokers from inhaling second-hand smokes. A second-hand smoke is defined as smoke inhaled involuntarily from tobacco being smoked by others. Tobacco consists of carcinogenic compounds which cause serious harm to a person's health, as it has more than 7000 chemicals including at least 70 that can cause cancer. Second-hand smokes also |

Hilton Hotels - Business Summary1. What is Hilton's core business model? What is the definition of a customer in a franchising model? Over the years, Hilton has moved from a traditional hotel company to more of a consultant. This shift in business model was driven aggressively by owners, Blackstone Inc. Out of 4,080 Hilton properties, less than 4 percent are directly owned or leased by the company itself. Instead, the company will merely manage it for a share of the profits or it is completely operated by a franchisee. This model takes away real estate fluctuation concerns from the Hilton management. Problems such as property values and capital investment into building development and maintenance are no longer a concern. And keep the business growing despite global economic turmoil. Instead, the focus is on developing the brand quality of customer service. Franchise fees keep up the revenue and consultant privileges ensure that a keen eye can be kept on compliance to hotel standards. The downside of this arrang |

Human Rights and Gender-Based ViolenceOf the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 1, Right to Equality states that "You are born free and equal in rights to every other human being. You have the ability to think and tell right from wrong. You should treat others with friendship." In my opinion, this means that everyone, despite gender or race, has rights and should be treated equally. However, in some developing countries this is not the case. The major cause of Gender-Based Violence is the culture and lack of education; it continues to be a problem because in developing countries people don't understand the value of women. Since this has been going on for years, it has been imbedded into the culture and is considered normal to do. A form of gender based violence is Honor Killings in which parents kill their daughter for dishonoring their family in hope that this would bring back honor. From the documentary, "Honor Daries" about honor within families. A woman named Jasvinder Sanghera says, "... But she took |

The Male Gaze: Sociology of GenderFor the past few Sociology of Gender classes we have been discussing or beginning to enter the topic which is the Male Gaze. We have been discussing how the Male Gaze affects so many women in the world when they come to portray themselves in the Medias eyes. Within this assignment I will look to use class material as well as videos to answer the question that is "what influence does the male gaze have on the argument of personal empowerment?" To do this I will also implement an image or two to help me with my argument to provide an answer to this very important question. First off I will discuss what the male gaze is. According to Butler (1990) "Gender is socially constructed, and that we learn to be men and women by watching repeated impressions of feminity and masculinity in our everyday lives and through media representations", for me this is the perfect representation of the male gaze. Philips HealthSuite Digital Platform1. Describe the changing environment for healthcare and medicine in the US today. What are the new opportunities and challenges in this changing landscape for a firm like Philips? ANS: Healthcare providers under pressure and due to the passing of Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010 led to a shift among healthcare providers toward the fee for value models rather than fee-for-service (FFS). The ACA specified that hospital compensation is determined in part by the quality of outcomes rather than on FFS basis as before. High-quality outcomes or patient satisfaction scores could lead hospitals to receive financial rewards, but there were high rates of penalties for readmission or hospital-acquired conditions. This transformation made the hospitals invest more in IT-based solutions. Consumers also began using technology to become further engaged and better educated about their health. This shift to fee-for-value presented new opportunities for providers to focus on holistic wellness and |

The Story of Oedipus the KingThe self-confident, intelligent, and strong willed leader named Oedipus gained ruler of Thebes by answering this Riddle of Sphinx; what has four legs in the morning, two at noon, and three at night? Oedipus replies, Man (who crawls on all fours as a baby, walks upright later, and needs a walking stick in old age). Since Oedipus was the only person who answered the riddle correctly, he gained respect to his fellow people. By gaining respect, he became an honorable leader. Through leadership, he redeemed his village; admitted and accepted his mistakes and failures. Through these characters, he reflects a good man. In Sophocles' play, "Oedipus the King, Oedipus' village admired him, for he liberated his people from previous misfortunes. "You came and by your coming saved our city, freed us from the tribute which we paid of old to the Sphinx, cruel singer," (Sophocles, 39-41) says the priest. Book Analysis - The RoadThe post-apocalyptic setting has become one of the most prevalent settings in modern film making and literature. The extreme situations strip the human race of morals and beliefs. The civilization of the world is reduced to an animalistic survival scenario. These worlds offer an ideal stage for a commentary on human nature. Cormac McCarthy uses a post-apocalyptic story of a man and his son in his novel The Road to do just this. The world is depicted as a cold, desolate waste land blanketed in ash. Cannibalistic groups of humans travel in packs hunting everyone they find. One may find it hard to present a silver lining in a scenario such as this. However, Cormac McCarthy's writing style and use of diction, throughout his work, The Road, presents an optimistic outlook on the survival of humanity mainly because it highlights the possibility for good and inherent good in all. McCarthy seemingly describes the world as this dark eerie wasteland, but often there are glimpses of hope within t |

Alcoholism in The Black CatLike many of Edgar Allan Poe's stories, The Black Cat ventures into the abnormal psychology in which the narrator is completely insane. The mysterious man narrating is an interesting character, one who contradicts himself at every twist and turn. The story opens with a man giving a full account of a horrifying experience he went through, blaming two cats for his eventual murder of his wife, for which he is about to be hanged for. He says that he is not "mad" and that this experience is no "dream" (Poe 1). The narrator blames his actions throughout the story on his alcoholism, which is one of the main factors that caused this once loving humanitarian to turn into an impulsively violent, perverse, and intemperate murderer and abuser. This man is subject to uncontrollable, impulsive behavior. For example, the narrator comes home one night "much intoxicated" and cuts his black cat's eye out, merely because the animal avoided him. During this attack on his pet, he |

Dynamics of Law and the CourtroomThe legislative arm of government in any country enacts the laws of the land. However, it is the courts that decide how those laws are to be used in the many cases that happen. This essay will look at the role of the different participants in a court. Specifically, it will address the duties and responsibilities of the major participants, the selection process they go through and their significance in the proceedings of a court. Courtrooms have specific layouts that ensure that all legal issues that need to be attended to by the courts are handled in the most effective and efficient way possible. At the front of the courtroom, there is a higher position reserved specifically for the judge. This higher position enables the judge to see the whole of the court and therefore, be in a better position to control the court proceedings. This also serves to show that the Judge is the highest authority figure in the courtroom. Being the highest authority in the courtroom, the judge has many d |
