Lack of Conformity in Quality Pieces of LiteratureAll the worlds a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits, and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts. (As You Like It Act 2 Scene 7). Even Shakespeare recognized the idea of conformity as early as the 1600s. He describes it as a game specifically that women and men are playing in this world to find their place in society. Feelings of frustration and potential individualism take place in society today, as well as in these pieces of literature. Today, civilians in Baltimore are rebelling against police forces; revealing their dignified frustration and passion for the death of Freddie Gray. He was an African American civilian injured upon arrest and fell into a fatal coma. Lack of conformity has been a continuous issue in society in this world, and three pieces of literature display that profoundly well. The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald, The Adventures of Walter Mitty by James Thurber, and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twa |

Our New, Unimproved and Rude SocietyAs kids we have always been taught not to play with our food at the table and not to say some things in front of certain people. But in this day and age, those rules have gone out the window. Today's society is increasingly getting ruder in many different ways. First we are losing simple manners. Second we have less self-restraint in the way that we speak to elders or anyone. Finally, technology is taking a big part in the increase of rudeness in today's world. First, as the years have gone by, the younger generation has not been taught or has not learned the simple manners that our past generations have. For example, holding open a door for someone, specifically a woman. I have seen many instances where a kid that is old enough to know better just opens the door and flies through it to get where he is trying to get to, not caring about who is behind him. For me I was taught that, as a common courtesy, to hold open a door for anyone no matter the age or the gender is proper. Also, an old standard that is dying off in today's society is the powerful words please and thank you. These wo |

Oncology and Pain AssessmentDealing with pain in patients with cancer is a major issue when it comes to health care. The article "Assessment and Management of Patients with Cancer Pain" aims to address issues dealing with cancer pain (Chapman, 2011). The articles provide nurses with information on types and causes of pain, ways for assessment, management strategies and incidence. More specifically this article may help me as a nurse provide care and apply given information to my own practice because it describes the differences in causes of cancer pain. Accounts the various types of assessment tools applicable and summarizes obstacles to pain assessment. Characterizes several approaches to cancer pain. Finally, it defines ways of pain management via alternative medicine. The article states that pain can appear in cancer patients at any stage of the disease. Pain can occur in patients while undergoing treatment, after treatment, during the terminal phase, and/or before treatment. Pain management is important beca |

The Moral Compass in Lord of the FliesThere are many theories of the natural internal moral compass of mankind. Some believe that we are born morally good and society instills a sense of moral wrong into us and we become evil. Others believe that we are born evil and society is used to hide the evil within us. William Golding author of Lord of the Flies believes just this. In his novel he shares a story of a group of boys who become stranded on an island during a hypothetical world war three. The boys arrive on the island and began to try to establish a sense of society in hopes to be able to survive and be rescued. They elect the character Ralph as chief to set rules and be the leader of the group. Ralph as chief creates a group called the Hunters which are used to hunt and kill animals for meat. The leader of this group is Jack (This character is Golding's main outlet to display the Beast within). With all the hunting the hunters begin to enjoy the kill and become careless about survival, caring more about the kill. As t |

The Advertisements AssignmentEveryday we see advertisements and we can not help it they are everywhere. A good advertisement should tell people about the business, the product, the services for sale, and the benefits of buying from that business. The purpose of the assignment is to state whether advertisements manipulate the public or not. On my personal opinion, not all advertisements are good, I think they manipulate the public to have them buy their products. To begin with the first advertisement is from Cenegenics Medical Institute, it has a 54 year old dr who is ripped, lots of muscle tone, looks young, advertisement includes a before and after picture of him before he started using the program looking older and fat, after picture shows the doctor looking younger and fitted with muscles. The program offers a balance combination of nutrition, exercise, and hormones. After doing some research on the company, I found out that the program didn't work for most of the people who subscribed to it. The emotional appeal for this would be the need to achieve because looking young at the age of 54 is difficult. The second advertisement is a Muscle Milk the advertisement with professional basketball |

Reality TV - The Truth About the KardashiansReality television has become one of the most popular and freshest trends in today's society, and it has become a common theme in American culture. I myself am a fan of reality TV like Real Housewives franchise depicting lives of wealthy women who live their fabulous lives in cities like New York and Beverly Hills. I am also a fan of the MTV's hit series Teen Mom that shows real life girls who became pregnant at a young age and shows them coping with the struggles of motherhood. No matter how arguably controversial these shows incite debate or how they are often perceived as a nuisance or incompetent in execution or production, the drama of the program is what keeps the viewers invested. Even though reality TV may or may not be a beneficial influence in today's society, viewers are constantly drawn to the drama, emotions, and explosive personalities, which the show introduces. Reality TV is so widely consumed by our generation because it gives viewers a way to relate and live vicarious |

The Significance of Mary Warren in The CrucibleMary Warren plays a very important role in the development of The Crucible's plot. Mary Warren is a young servant girl whose ethics are challenged when she becomes afflicted with terror and intimidation. Mary is a character of weak determination who allows herself to be bullied constantly. She is not an "evil" person, but her fragile will combined with her desire to be someone in the Salem community forces her into a situation in which she does harm to other people. Mary Warren is clearly a follower and easily succumbs to Abigail's demands and threats. Mary's passive nature becomes clear from the beginning of the play, her "subservient" behavior automatically shown when she tries desperately to convince Abigail that they "must tell the truth". The fact that she must try to persuade Abigail first and insist on telling the "truth" instead of going to confess the authorities herself, shows how she is incapable she is under the threat of Abigail. |

The Rise and Fall of Penn Station"A mad and reckless pursuit", that, is what people labeled the idea of linking New England, Long Island and New Jersey to the island of Manhattan. After several tedious and frustrating trips from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to New York City, Alexander Cassatt, a railroad engineer and the president of the largest railroad company, the Pennsylvania Railroad, took it upon himself to connect these two cities and other cities as well. Rather than boarding a ferry to reach New York City, Alexander Cassatt was determined to create an easier, convenient and less time-consuming mode of transportation into New York City. Disregarding the skeptics and critics, Alexander Cassatt along with the help of Charles Jacobs, Charles McKim, Samuel Rae and many others made what seemed impossible, possible. If one told a person in 1910, that the wonderful landmark, Pennsylvania Station would only last a few decades, they would have laugh hysterically. The producer and director of the film The Rise a |

How to Go Sale ShoppingNo one wants to pay full price for clothing anymore, especially in this economy. Shopping has always been financially hard for me as a teenager even though I did have a job. Although I have a job now, multiple in fact, it's even harder for me because I am your stereotypical poor college student. However, we need clothes, but paying for clothing isn't easy. A few years back, my best friend and I came up with a full proof plan to go after Christmas sale shopping. We perfected this idea not too long ago. I am here to go by the step-by-step process of how to go after Christmas sale shopping! The materials you will need would be: money, a computer, closet full of clothing, and comfortable clothing (i.e. sneakers, loose fitting pants, t-shirt, etc.). Plan ahead. Whether you plan on getting money for Christmas, or saving money, make sure you know where your income is coming from. Not only is this the first step, but it is the most important step. You cannot go shopping without money; and, no, the so-called five finger discount is not allowed, unless you want to find yourself in jail! You |

My Hero - Dr. David Duncan MainIf you have seen the news about China, you can find that the physician-patient relationship in China has been very bad in recent years. Patients don't trust doctors any more, even some individual patients have attacked doctors who treated them. It's hard to believe, but it's true. So I decided to search some information about physician-patient relationship, at last I found that the physician-patient relationship 100 years ago was much better than now in China. And there was a doctor named David Duncan Main played an important role during that time. The more I learnt about him, the more I respected him. He is my hero. For me, a hero is a person who is courageous, persevering and selfless. Firstly, I want to talk about Duncan Main's courage. He was one of the most famous missionaries in China in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He came to China at a time when China was experiencing t |

I'm Nobody! Who are You? by Emily DickinsonEvery time I read this poem, I feel like an arrow was aimed at my conscious. Though seeming simple and playful at first glance, Dickinson's "I'm Nobody" packs deep meanings that can make one stop and reflect. The following will address my analysis of this poem. Dickinson used a lot of literary techniques to make us readers grasp a better idea. At first glance, one cant help but notice the use of random capitalization and many punctuations, especially dashes. I believe that this is to form a rhythmic flow and allow reader to pause and think. "How dreary-to be- Somebody/ How public-like a Frog" the especially many dashes in this two lines and capitals to the word "Frog" and "Somebody" allows more emphasis to her point. The use of other punctuations like "I am nobody!" right in the beginning of the poem adds character and feelings to the poem, making it more colourful and allows me to feel closer to the narrator. The use of assonance and |

Overview Notes on AnthropologyAnthropology is always an interesting topic of discussion; Anthropology can be defined as the study of humans, focusing on similarities and differences, both biological and cultural, in human population (Ember, Ember, Peregrine 516). In simpler terms, it is the study of humans developed over the years. The field of anthropology is very broad, making it impossible for one person to complete all the goals in this career. To solve this, subfields were created. Each one focuses on a different aspect of anthropology and has different goals to be met. There are many subfields within anthropology, but each one is important. In total, there are three different categories for the field of Anthropology. All jobs fit under biological anthropology, applied anthropology, and cultural anthropology. There are three classifications of job under cultural anthropology: linguists, archaeologists, and ethnologists. An anthropological linguist focuses on the study of language around the world. Research Paper - Understanding Animal CrueltyAccording to an article published at ASPCA, "many people are probably familiar with our dedicated Agents and the work they do to save the lives of animals across the country. But did you know that you, too, can help crack down on animal cruelty in your community" ("Top 10 Ways to Prevent Animal Cruelty"). This just shows that people have the opportunity to stop this from happening. It might not be easy, but with enough people it's possible. LeAnn helps by saying, "Im sure animal abuse can't be stopped completely, but I feel if people would step in when they see abuse or a child being overly agressive with an animal, it would help to limit abuse" (LeAnn). This is exactly what needs to happen to limit this abuse going on in the world. But at the same time, ASPCA does all they can to insure that the animals are in a safe foundation. Without ASPCA, the amount of animal deaths would be a lot higher than they are today. Now let's see what the OSPCA has to say ab |

Stabilty and Freedom in Brave New WorldThe society of "Brave New World" promises infinite stability in exchange for individual freedom. This infinitely stable society is one where poverty, racism and violence no longer exists, however this society does not only require the sacrifice of freedom, but also boasts a new kind of slavery where humans and the social institutions are completely engineered. It supports a caste system which suggests nothing benevolent about this dictatorship which have genetically engineered those of the lower class to be completely submissive. Thus, in analyzing the society of "Brave New World" individuals losing their freedom is not good as it limits them and their abilities into becoming infantile individuals who cannot help but depend on the state, thriving its ideas of consumption. The value of living in one such society as "Brave New World" a society free from the everyday troubles, is what most of us want to achieve on a daily basis. However that is quite unattainable cur |

The ALS Ice Bucket ChallengeI remember on July 12th being at Oriole Park in Baltimore, Maryland at a Baltimore Orioles game and seeing some guy on the field dump a bucket of water on himself before the game. I had no idea what or why he was doing that. Then I heard someone behind me say that was the ice bucket challenge, so I began to search online what the ice bucket challenge was and why people were doing it. What I found out was pretty intriguing and amazing. The main purpose of this was to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and encourage donations to research the disease. ALS is a neurodegenerative disorder with various causes. It is characterized by muscle spasticity, rapidly progressive weakness due to muscle wasting. This results in difficulty speaking, swallowing, and breathing (Motor). The challenge ultimately had two main goals, to raise money for ALS research, and to raise awareness for ALS. Features of Shakespeare's MacbethDiction PEEL A Fabulous quote by Barbara Kingsolver, in "High Tide in Tucson" referring to how art is forgotten around the world, while centuries into the past art was the way of communication and living. It outlines art as the rescue to problems and great way for further friendship. "Antidote"(page 1), detonating a medicine or other remedy counteracting the effect of poison and other disease. Containing this word, the author would refer to art as a relief, and a recovery, which it makes to human civilization. It simplifies friendship, as well as the soul connection of people while they are interacting with it. This outlines, and persuades the reader, that art is the solution to all problems. Even though she uses art as an example to a positive factor, the sentences are filled with negative adjectives, such as "numbness"(page 1). The denotation of this word brings bad memories to many, since most "antidotes"(page 1), are connected with poison, w |

United State's Supreme Court in the 1800'sIn the early 1800's, the Supreme Court decisions on the cases of McCulloch v. Maryland and Gibbons v. Ogden represented a bold abuse of the power by the Supreme Court in favor of the national government. In both of these examples, the Supreme Court wrongly interpreted the Constitution, gave too much power to the national government, and brazenly ignored the 10th Amendment of the United States Constitution. This Amendment states that, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people," (U.S. Const. amend. X). In the cases of McCulloch v. Maryland and Gibbons v. Ogden, the Supreme Court, under the leadership of Chief Justice John Marshall, placed far too much power in the hands of the national government when it, as the Constitution says, should have been placed in the hands of the individual states. In the case of McCulloch v. Maryland during the year 1819, the stat |

Bicycle Thieves and Aristotles PoeticsIn "Aristotle's Poetics", the author, a Greek philosopher, gives his theory of what makes up a tragedy. He gives his insight about which aspects of a piece of art render it tragic or simple. Victorrio De Sica's film The Bicycle Thief possesses some of the qualities and aspects of Aristotle's theory, but certainly not all. Whether it can be considered a tragic film or not is based on the perspective of each audience member, and whether or not they consider all of Aristotle's aspects vital to its classification. Many people will say that The Bicycle Thief is a tragedy. Although the film is lacking some elements, it possesses many qualities Aristotle deems necessary for a successful tragedy. Aristotle specifies in chapter 15 that in order for the antagonist to be a tragic hero, he must be good, have good qualities, be realistic, and be consistent (Aristotle 55). The main character, Alberto, does in fact fit these qualifications. Aristotle also states in chapter 13 that the plot must consist of a moment of peripeteia, a reversal of affairs, and a moment of anagnorisis, a ch |

White Influences of the Harlem RenaissanceThe Harlem Renaissance was perhaps one of the most important periods in American literary history. However, such issues as the relationship between the Harlem Renaissance and mainstream American culture, especially the relationship between African-American literature and white American culture and how white people have influenced the Harlem Renaissance have not been explored into. Nevertheless, white critics, patrons and publishers in the era of the Harlem Renaissance were critical for the growth of African-American literature, and its new role in the whole American culture. Whites had an important role in supporting the Harlem Renaissance through financial support, how white intellectuals view and talk about African-American literatures and connection with white publishers. The Harlem Renaissance centered in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City, and the movement had significant impacts throughout the United States. Rent - A Play by Jonathan LarsonThe play "Rent" produced by Jonathan Larson, was first written in 1996. This modern day story is loosely based off of Puccini's opera, La Boheme. This play created a twist on the original characters, for example, Rodolfo is changed to Roger and rather than being a poet, he becomes a rock musician. However, one of the main focuses of the play is AIDS. This is another twist on the opera, originally it was tuberculosis that took Mimi's life in the end. While the AIDS does kill her, she comes back to life, where in the original opera, she dies. Firstly, in order create a perfect setting or scenery for a production, you would need a scenic designer. The scenic designer helps serve both the directors interpretation of the work and the playwright. The designer, Yoshi Tanokura, truly created a replica of the dingy streets by placing scaffoldings and a graffiti background. Upon entering the theater, the first thing that was noted was the thick fog in the room, showing the audience |
